Aor ar-3000a antenna

Hello my name is David and a Friend of mine has a use AOR AR-3000A, and I was wondering? Does it take a special antenna?

No. Just use whatever antenna is appropriate for the band and applications (frequency coverage, gain, directivity etc...)

Thank you for responding so quickly! =) Do you have to have it hooked up to a computer to receive? Also if I may be so Bold to ask! =) What kind of antenna do you use on yours?

Also my Friend tells me that the AR-300A can pick up and receive Cell Phone Frequencys is that true?

It can recieve cell phone frequencies. however, u will not be able to hear any of the conversations because cell phones are all digital now and it cannot decode them. You might if u search long enough happen to find someone who uses one of the old "bag" cell phones and hear one end of a conversation, but not likely. and, it's illegal to do so anyway. As for antennas, i have mine hooked up to a diamond discone on a 45 foot tower and it works really well on vhf hi and the aircraft bands both vhf and uhf. When i have the money (whenever that would be) i want to take down the discone and put up a dpd productions log periodic beam. The aor 3000 is my favorite (and only) scannner for long range comms. It seems to have a great resistance to intermod/images as opposed to scanners from radio shack and uniden. The triple conversion it has and the bandpass filters are great. The sensitivity is real good also.
