Hi all,
I have an AR-5000 with serial number 074089. There should be the +3 version
(including AM-Sync., NB and AFC) from serial number around 070661.
I can not find the added +3 functions in the menus, they do not exist in my receiver.
Does anybody know are these functions to be activated or do I have the version
without +3 in a higher serial number?
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know the +3 functions were optional purchase.

The AR5000 needs to be fitted with an extra hardware board and supporting firmware. It was not standard after mentioned serial number, but the option became available. I'm afraid quite impossible to get (done) now, as AOR support is long overdue.

Great RX, also without the option!

Thanks Paul for reply. I had a suspicion in that direction but was not sure.
Yes, the old AR5000 is a nice RX.

All of the AR5000+3 receivers that I have seen have this "+3" sticker on the back:

Thanks bagmouse7 for your effort, mine has no sticker but it is a "Bogerfunk" (Germany) version.
It looks like a standard version with some Boger modifications.
All the best,

If I did not have an AR5700/IC-R8600 I would think about a +3 update
for the AR5000, but in this case the boards are not worth it to me ($800 incl. shipping and customs).
Anyway thanks for the info!

You have 3 fine radios! I have the AOR AR5000A+3, an AR-ONE (also with Boger mods), and the DV-10. I've been watching for a used 5700D - thinking about replacing the 5000 & AR-ONE with that. What are your thoughts about the 5700D vs the Icom or the 5000?

Hi David,
my personally thoughts:

I use the 5700D for monitoring ham bands over 30Mhz. No real shortwave experience on it, on shortwave
the 8600 really shines. Have an IC7851 for DXing, against the big one, the 8600 is doing a fine RX job on shortwave.

Shortwave on the 5000 is (in my opinion) only an "addition", but on Vhf and up it is a super
analog-modes receiver with the best sound of this trio.

What bothers me on the 8600 against the 5700D (FM, Digi, Vhf and up) is scanning.
Here, the 5700D has much more possibilities (for me, bank-link function was important) and some
other and more scan options speaks for the 5700D (assuming one needs or wants it...)

There would be much more to say, but for me and my needs, these are the most important points.
