Kneitel's 103 Simple Transistor Projects was my first foray into actually building something 'electronic'(circa 1972ish). Before that it was a battery, coil of wire, light bulb, and a compass.

No subscription, but the newsstand over by my house was visited a couple times a month to get the monthly PopComm.

You're welcome! Tom Kneitel was quite a character and fierce advocate for the hobby. Before Pop Comm, he was the editor of S-9 CB magazine and also wrote for Popular Electronics.
