Sprint is the only carrier allowed to utilize all its radios. Up to 8 now with spark.
Huh? What are you talking about. Carriers can only operate where they have licensed spectrum. All carriers run RRUs that can operate on multiple bands. But they can only operate on bands where they are licensed. Last I checked, Sprint has limited licenses in the old 800MHz SMR band (which they scammed to get), no 700MHz, no legacy A or B block 800MHz licenses and a ton of PCS.
There should be one agency setting standards..
There is. I already provided relevant links.. Read up and study.
I have a button that jumps me over to verizons 1xrtt and evdo rev a network.
So how does this "button" work? On what model of handset? Of course roaming only works if carriers have agreements.
Conjecture....if its not on paper its not allowed.
Right, so where is your supporting documentation about roaming agreements, network redundancy and priority agreements you mentioned in the beginning of this thread?
Nextel used to have a govt model with a red button that would clear up at least 4 active voice slots in line so the priority phone would go through.
Oh really? What model is that? How did this work? Was the "clearing up" done at the site controller level or the DAP?
Iden should have been fixed and alocated to public safety. Best phone company that ever existed. .
iDEN is not, nor ever was designed, to even APCO16 standards. It was designed to be a replacement for Privacy Plus and legacy analog business radio networks.
Fixed allocating to public safety? You gotta be kidding. iDEN almost caused Birmingham, AL PD to have an LODD or two or three when some genius thought it would be a bright idea to put public safety on Southern LINC. Not to mention, OPEX costs overrun the budget every year paying SoCo everytime someone activated a talkgroup.
Guess what they did, the wised up before someone got killed and replaced it with a bonafide P25 DTRS.
and saved money doing it.
Who cares about less than one quarter of the 800mhz spectrum killing it cleared up. It always worked when it had service.
We care, iDEN was never intended to be intermingled with traditional non-cellular LMR on the existing band plan. Motorola's own internal documents proved it was not compatible as a "good neighbor". What Nextel did playing cellphone company with iDEN on the SMR band put many people's lives at risk who relied on having always available public safety radio.
It was neat as a business radio product but it's time has passed. 1993 called, they want their L3000's back!
