• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys,

My company recently purchased some APX 2000 Radios, and CPS.

We're currently able to load/program Zones, Channels, Freqs, Channel Announcements, and Cloning.

Our goal is to have two different zones, one secured (encrypted) and one non secured (non-encrypted). We currently have the non secured zone setup and working just fine. However, we're having trouble setting up the secure zone.

It's basically going to be a standalone system for rescue work. No repeaters or fancy stuff unfortunately.

We are using Conventional configurations, with one ASTRO Talkgroup (not 100% sure how this works to be honest), one Conventional System, and two Conventional Personalities. There are 6 channels in Zone 1 (Non Secure), and 4 channels in Zone 2 (Secure).

As for security configurations, we have tried software, and hardware settings with no luck; however that doesn't mean we just didn't know the right settings for each individually. Infinite Key Retention is on, and the Encryption Key List is up with two different methods of encoding; but to be honest, we're not 100% sure how to set the keys up "properly".

Every time we write to the device to test it, we get the "No Keyset" message, followed by, "Key Fail" and a beep while in the Secure Zone.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much!

Hardware setting is for if you are loading encryption keys with a keyloader. And for software keys, you have to make sure you enter the keys and CKR ID's the same on all radios. Let's be honest here, if you don't know what you are doing, why are you doing it? Take them to a dealer and let them do it correctly.

The tutorials provided with the purchased copies of CPS can also be pretty helpful if one takes time out to go over them. MSI does offer an "APX subscriber academy" training with is STRONGLY recommended if one has never programmed APX radios. It isn't cheap but then, Motorola is like BMW. If you have to ask how much....

We've gone through them, and that's actually the way we learned how to do all the other basic programming. However, after going through them further, I believe what we're missing is a Master Key Generator / Advanced Keys Administrator. Thoughts on this?

Honestly, this is probably the best solution for our company. I'm pretty new to this stuff, we're a company that is starting up and trying to get off the ground, so trying to save some money while getting quality equipment. Any recommendations on places we can bring our radios to in South California in order be programmed properly; or how to locate them in our local area?

Thanks again for the help guys

You're way out in left field.

Have you even bothered to enter keys using CPS or with a key loader?

Perhaps we have, unfortunately we are all very green to the radios and programming them (so all of your help is much appreciated).

Currently we have these settings:

-Non-XL Scan Unsquelch Duration (ms): 275

Multikey Settings:
-Display On Secure Switch Select: Disabled
-Display on PTT: Disabled
-Display On Mode Change: Key Name
-Key ID:
-Rx Hang Time (ms): 2250
-Tx Hang Time (ms): 1750
-Erase Previous On User Change: Unchecked

Encryption Key List:
-Key Name: Key 1
-CKR#: 1969
-Slot A/B: 0-0
-Selectable ADP Key Data: 1234567891
-Selectable ADP Key ID: 9597

I've left out the fields we weren't able to edit.

Thanks for the help Mike
