Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all...I am new to the APX world as far as programming goes. I have an APX6000XE with BT and I was able to connect to it via laptap bt connection just fine and it read the radio no worries. I saved the original codeplug to the computer and was only looking to make one change, a simple frequency add. I have made my changes and inputs where I believe applicable and when I go to write the radio, the APX beeps, shuts off and restarts and I get a fail message on the CPS (R26.00.00)

Am I missing something or is this just possibly the shotty BT connection?

Word is cps r26 is buggy. Heard keeping to a prior version below or updating the firmware resolves several issues. Have you tried a actual programming cable?

It's your BT connection, and troubleshooting that is going to be a doozy. Not sure what "bugs" are in CPS 26, other than the terrible .NET implementation that has come with APX CPS since release. Moto is currently returning all APX radios from Depot with FW 25, so take it for what it's worth. FWIW, In our testing FW 26.03 has been fine. Oh, and CPS 27 is supposed to drop any day now :p

Not sure of all the bug issues I believe the firmware was the issue with r26 and cps 26 had issues with it thus firmware was being bumped down by them or newer.

Thanks for the replies all...I didn't have much confidence in attempting the BT link in the first place..and then it read the radio lol so it fooled me perhaps! The department is going to be purchasing cables direct from a dealer but I figured I would attempt it before they arrived.

I do think I can still access the previous CPS on my Moto account..I may try that if this becomes a thing with the cables as well.

The biggest thing with bluetooth i found is after a read or write in APX it disconnects from the radio. So in order to do another operation you must reconnect the bluetooth connection each and every time.

It's been a bit, but we purchased motorola programming cables for the radios and after messing with it tonight, I still cannot seem to write to the radio even with the cable now. I get the same error message

This is only happening with that one 6000XE? AN or BN? What is the history of that radio? Acquired from a legit source with a valid FLASHcode that matches the tags...or "other"? What firmware is the radio at, and have you attempted to upgrade the firmware to the latest R27.03.00? Have you updated CPS to R27, or are you still using R26?

It has happened with 2 for sure that I tried so far. We had a batch of 12 that were purchased new about 2-3 years ago and went through a Motorola programming tech at that time. They have been the only ones to access the radios since owning them. I don't have the information in front of me now as to what firmware, but I do know they would be prior to R26 and my laptop currently has R26 on it which is what I was trying to use.

I would update your CPS to R27.00.01, for starters. See if you can read/write the radio with the USB cable at that point. If you can connect to one of the radios, try upgrading the firmware to R27.03.00 and see if that makes any difference. It's tough to diagnose issues like this when you're on old firmware and using old CPS.

I also forgot to mention this may have something do with an ASK...I'm new to Motorola stuff (would rather deal with Kenwood) but I have since got in contact with the tech center and the state of missouri and was able to obtain an ASK for our programming needs according to them. I will definitely still try to upgrade the software and firmware...once I figure that out

Ah yes, if the radios have ASK in the FLASH, you're going to have trouble writing to them without the ASK dongle plugged into the programming PC. I don't believe you ever posted the actual message you're seeing in CPS, you only made a vague reference to an "error message". Important to be detailed when trying to resolve issues.

It was a pretty bland error message honestly. It didn't say anything about any keys or anything that would suggest something like that. I'm going to try the USB dongle they have sent and see where that goes.

I have the USB key as provided by the state of missouri, which regulates these thing with their network...plugged it into the computer to attempt to write to the radio...I was able to snap a picture quick enough to catch the error I am getting now. "indirect ptt audio routing is not compatible between source and target"

which judging off a previous reply of yours on another thread..I would have a CPS/Radio compatibility issue.
The radio pulls this: Codeplug - R21.40.01 Firmware: R20.35.00

I am NOT motorola savy what-so-ever just yet so I apologize for the confusions...I'm not real sure where to go from here. I understand I need to do some updating in order for this to work but I'm not sure where to start and do want to screw the radio up.
