• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just have a quick question for someone to answer. I recently took my APX 6000 1.5 model and put a 2.5 model screen on it. It lights up shows time. When i program it, that all works perfect, but it doesnt show channel or zone on the display. It only shows the time in the top left corner. Can someone help me fix it?

Put the 1.5 plate back on the radio. The radio knows it's a 1.5 so it doesn't recognize the keypad/display

If you need a model 2.5, sell the 1.5 and buy a 2.5
I get that, I just figured it was an easy swap I had an extra 2.5 display laying around. I don’t mind just the top display. The volume knob is broke but I manage with it. I have a new top display but idk if it will work with this model

It requires certain software to change the model number from a model 1.5 to 2.5. If this is an agency radio I would advise against such.

I’m gonna leave it alone. The only thing changing is I’m replacing the top control head as the volume knob is broke so you have you to remove the battery to turn off the radio if it doesn’t require software to change it

you can change the control top without needing a model change. For the back display to work it needs to be made a model 2.5 codeplug.

So I have an out of service apx6000 2.5 model control top, I tried to install it on this radio. Once installed the codeplug on the radio screwed up, I tried to reprogram but still nothing. When inserting the old control top back in, it works as it should

The control top should not have screwed up the radio. I’ve swapped numerous tops even between multiple radios with no issue.

You got something else going on there.

I found out my problem after doing some research. The control head i have came from a 7/800 mhz radio and my units are vhf
