• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all, have a question I'm hoping someone might be able to assist with. My jurisdiction is (FINALLY) moving to a trunked system later this year and we are in the prep stages right now...our radio vendor has reprogrammed all our radios to include the new system so that once it goes live, we will essentially switch to that zone and be operational.

That being said, I'm running into an issue with my department's portables. We have APX6000xe portables.....some are AN-series and some are the newer BN-series. The problem I'm having is thus far the "clear alert tone" on the BN-series radios has ceased to function. Prior to reprogramming, it worked just fine. I've checked the codeplug and "talk permit tone" is enabled as it should be....but for some reason it is only working on the older, AN-series portables.

Has anyone run into this and is there a way to correct it? I realize its a trivial issue in some respect, but I'd like to fix it if I can.

Thanks!!!

EDIT: forgot to mention, I'm tasked with maintaining all the radios for my department and am still learning some ins and outs....not trying to do anything to them that I'm not responsible for.....just looking for additional guidance as our vendor didn't really have an answer for this.

Sounds like its codeplug specific to the AN's, have you tried reading the AN and BN and comparing side by side?

Yes, I checked one of each and the same settings are showing in both. What's confusing to me is the tech from our radio vendor told me there are like 18 different versions of our department's codeplug due to when radios were purchased, what firmware they have, etc etc.....I don't mind telling you I'm a total novice in the realm of radio programming, but it sounds extremely odd to me....he's saying the codeplug differences are why, for example, we're running into an issue with radios programmed identically, literally minutes apart with the "same" codeplug, are ending up with differing button assignments, etc. To me this sounds like something that shouldn't be occurring since all the radios are the same model and have been given updated firmware/entitlements/etc.

In any case, it does seem that only the ANs are working with this.....just can't figure it out

Its best to get to a consistent firmware across the board. But also radios with different flash codes necessitate different codeplugs.

I believe all the firmware has been updated, but I have run into different flash codes....forgive my ignorance, but is the flash code something that cannot be changed? I tried to pull the codeplug from one of the AN series radios and write it to the BN series just to see what would happen and CPS rejected it because of a differing flash code.

The model numbers are different so I believe that's why it won't clone

Flash depends on whats ordered at the time. There's some tools online that can compare flash codes and tell you what features are enabled
