• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Has anyone seen the list price and GSA Schedule prices on the APX 8000 besides me?

Like the size and capabilities of the 8000 but think Motorola has gone crazy... with their list prices alone when adding up a full package. Though they make excellent radios, pricing remains ridiculous considering they are made in other countries. Compared to the Harris Unity or the Thales Liberty (use to cost) for a full package.

They almost charge as much for a NEW radio as you do for USED radios.

I know right.

Back on topic, one of my cohorts priced a 3.5 out without WiFi, phase 2, AES-256 MACE, it was just over 4 grand. This was direct pricing from Motorola.

The Unity can't compare to the form factor and performance of an APX. No one in there right mind but a freak would carry a Unity as a duty radio.

I own two APX's now, one 7K XE and a new 8K. I have yet to find anything comparable that was available to the civilian market. And everyone knows how expensive tactical gear gets.

If you want decent gear, buy the best, and DO NOT buy an APX from Ebay unless you ABSOLUTELY know the source. 90% are junk that should have been put in the crusher as intended.

Play with the big boys, expect to fork over the big bucks.

I had the money to buy an APX from Motorola, but chose Harris and Thales prior to the APX 8000 coming out, as they were the only ones with 4 bands. Fully aware of the 90% APX eBay junk that has been circulating there since day one also that using/buying legitimate radios requires BIG $$$ and not Baofang prices!

If you are not under any contract restrictions about speaking/writing about the 8K could you post a small review similar to what I wrote about the Thales Liberty and the Harris Unity?

The 8K is made by Motorola.

The Liberty is made by who again?

The Unity is made by what was the name of that company this week?

End of review.
