To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings!
Setting up my new APX 8K XE. I went through a lot of videos and got my programming down, no issues. The only area I am not clear about is the scan lists. I have about 20 channels I want in a zone. Now, here is my confusion; The rotary switch only has 15 positions. I know I can add more than 15 conventional channels to a scan list. Fine. What happens if there is activity in, say, channel 18 and I want to stop the scan to monitor that channel? Won't the radio go back to whatever channel is on whatever position the switch is on? How do I stay on channel 18 in this case? Maybe I am not understanding something. Again, I have no other issues with the CPS, just this one. I am stopped at channel 12 on my programming until I figure this out.

Really your only solution is to program channel up and down into the soft keys. Otherwise you have to nuisance delete everything except channel 18 if that's all you want to listen to

I'll give that a shot and see how it works out, thanks...

Manny, I set my emerg button as my 'scan' button. One of my side keys is a nuisance button (for temp ignoring an active channel during scan.) So you could just set your scan button key and then stop scanning when a transmission comes up. Or you can use Nuisance to remove other active channels and focus on Ch 18, for example.

Also note that if you press PTT within X seconds I believe it will stop scanning and stop on that channel. I haven't done this in a while so someone may need to confirm that.

Now this is funny. I have my radio buttons set up exactly like yours. I'll give your advise a try. Thanks!
