• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have noticed sellers on eBay have the flashcode details of their APX radios. With Akardam down, how are they doing it? Is there a site somewhere or software that does it? I have googled it to death and come up with nothing.

Thanks Motorola for screwing the little guy!!!! He had a great tool on there to convert xls to an importable file to add alias to APX, it was a great time saver!

Taking away this tool from hobbyist accomplishes nothing for Motorola. All they care about is profit, they're not gaining or loosing anything monetarily by banning this tool. Motorola sucks ! A once well respected company with knowledgeable engineering producing high quality products is now a cesspool for bottom of the barrel last in class engineering interns producing flawed firmware and less then par hardware as compared to 15-20 years ago. Very sad.

Here and there
Their main deal was people buying basic radios, people using the decoders to use a illegal thing to flash them loaded with unpaid features, then rereshing the firmware to mask the source. If you add up the costs of the sales online sometimes more than what a basic apx goes for from them and used being more online loaded, you can see where theyd feel monetary loss. Has never been about hobby crowd. Mostly bone the greedy few who buy stock basic used radios and load them crazy with features most will never use or touch.

If you think it's bad now wait till it requires a phone home every time to run cps, validation of features and cps before reading.

They could require you bump up to a tool proof firmware version before getting any firmware updates.

Being they solved that illegal issue with server type access on running a simple exe people can't get what they once stole.

I see the cps eventually going to a server type deal or heavy authentication.

With mother M cps for the APX radio does suck it should look like the XTL or XTS CPS I love that and easy to use.

It's about as easy. APX CPS is a blend between Astro (where each personality was unique) and Astro 25 (where the zone channel info contains the unique bits). There are some things that the APX CPS doesn't do well (it's slow for one) but the Astro 25 CPS doesn't do much any better.

APX CPS blows the Astro25 out of the water. Just being able to name the personalities is a huge help. You can cut and paste channel names and frequencies from an Excel spreadsheet right into CPS. The ability to copy and paste between code plugs work great compared with exporting pick lists. There is a learning curve and the early versions sucked but I think it's pretty good. The only CPS I find easier is the OLD MotoTRBO (16.0)

I'll have to agree with you about the personality naming ability. However, until they make the top display auto populate, I don't care about any other updates they do. If the name is too long, make it go red and I can trunicate if need be.
