• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone, I was wondering if there was a way to set the volume to be at MAX when the radio is powered on? Right now it always powers on at either 12 or 13 (can't remember which off the top of my head). The radios I need to do this to are mounted in our fire apparatus and ambulance. The first thing we have to try to remember to do before we talk to dispatch is turn it all the way up or else we can't hardly hear them when they respond back to us or give us any updates on the call we are responding to. Often times turning it up gets forgotten when our minds are on what we are going to and it is quite frankly a pain. If anyone knows what I need to change in the CPS I would greatly appreciate it!

Should be under Radio Ergonomics > Radio Profile. Profiles are assigned under Radio Ergonomics Wide > Logical Profile Configuration, if you have more than one configured.

I was wondering if I needed to change a setting in the radio profiles to get it to startup at max volume. I seen I could set a fixed volume too under radio wide but we still want control of the volume so I didn’t think that was a very good option.

If you need the volume at max to hear a transmission you may want to consider a speaker. This could be better placed and provide better sound than the radio head, assuming that you don't already have one.
We are putting Firecom headsets in the two older/louder trucks so that will help in those at least. A remote speaker has crossed my mind as a possible option though if this didn’t work.

All I have ever seen was control of range of volume (min/max) or fixed volume. To start loud and remain adjustable may not be possible. That said, I have my speaker mic orange button set to attenuate volume— sort of partial mute. I have no idea if power cycling resets to normal volume because if it did that might be a hack to get you what you want. I don’t know if this is a portable only feature. You would have to remember to use button to toggle between set volume (loud) and soft (attenuated).
The professional fix for life/safety equipment would be as SMFD34 said to install a speaker (or 2). I installed a speaker top of door post inches from drivers head so he could hear traffic without blowing up everyone in the cab. I could set minimum volume quiet enough to not be annoying but due to proximity to in my case the driver, he would always hear traffic and if needed turn it up for clarity. In your case the radio should never be capable of being turned down below level needed to detect traffic!

I was afraid the solution we are after was probably not possible after combing through the codeplug several times trying yo find anything that would change the default power on volume. That would be a nice feature to have added but I doubt it’d ever happen.
