• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking to split an APX6500 (O5 head) from a dash mount to a remote mount. Does Motorola provide a kit to do this or do I have to buy each part separately? Are the XTL and APX TIB/CHIB interchangeable as long as they are meant for the O5 head?

Ok thanks. I've seen that PDF already however it provided no part numbers for separation. Any chance you have these?

XTL control heads will not work. Have been down this path myself. Look for apx_control_heads_ds.pdf online.

Newer O5 heads (Even the light grey ones that say XTL5000 on them) will work on an APX. Some of the older ones after flashing will come up with "unsupported CH" and not work.

SOURCE: I have a bunch in service. Took the head off an old XTL and put it on the APX and let the APX flash it to its appropriate firmware version.

My organization went with E5 control heads for APX6500 mobiles, so it was:

Mounting Kits/DEK BOX/Multiplexers:
1 H1930A E5 CH
1a G90AC ADD: No Microphone Needed APX
1b GA01755AA Add: E5 Remote CHIB
1c G142AD Add: No Speaker APX
1d GA01282AA Add: No Remote TIB
1e GA01301AA Add: No Pwr Cbl
1f GA01297AA Add: No Accessory Cable
1g G628AC Add: Remote Mount Cable 17 ft APX

I would recommend that you get with a Motorola Sales rep, for specific parts needed. In my case it was about $610 each for single remote head parts kits for APX6500 mobiles (I was expecting about twice that though being the big /\/\).
