• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Okay from my understanding is that the radio works like this:
Zones than personality with channels with in the personality but my issue is when turning the channel knob it just goes from personality 1 to 2 to 3 etc no option to select the channels written in the frequency area of the personality.

I am confused, so I started making personality as channels but that’s a real PITA

You need to create the personalities and channels within the personalities first, then add them to the zones, not the other way around. After they are all setup in the personalities and zones, then you create scan lists, then go back to the personalities and assign the scan lists to them. It's pretty straightforward, you should not be having this much difficultly with it.

I figured it out there is a second drop down within the frequency options once I saw that I figured it out actually this is a better setup than the xts series! Thank you for responding

Well I've noticed that from display lighting off when pressing the button to turn it on the display lighting gets bright slowly so it has stages of different brightness levels.

That's because you have newer firmware. The older firmware radios are just high and low. The new ones slowly dim.

If you're asking for manual brightness control like with the TRBO radios, no, that's not an option with APX. Just the aforementioned full bright, always on but dim, or off all the way.

The answer is in that other thread, and you can probably find many of these answers in the CPS help files, if you take the time to read and search. The "dim" setting is the default, by the way. If you have Permanent Front Display Backlight enabled and a button mapped to Light/Flip, pressing it toggles between full bright and dim (the top light goes off with the front display dimmed).
