Haven't seen the likes of this in well over a decade. This was sold under a few trade names. I believe they were made by the same manufacturers that made vintage Kenwood (Icom). (JRC ?)
This old, even user guides would be hard to find. Possibly hard copy sold on ebay.
Most/all of the stations are gone now but some airports still use beacons.

Hello Merlin, The unit is brand new in the box from 1983 but the auto find is not working just trying to reverse engineer it. Thanks Chip

At 40 years, new sitting in some warehouse, some components like electrolytics, can go bad.
Are you receiving a beacon or AM station ?
Does the antenna rotate when you press the verify button ?
Any improvement if you raise the ADF whip ?

I'll presume from 'reverse engineering' you have some background with MF/VLF receivers, phase comparator circuits,
and the antenna servo circuits.
This is fairly old technology, if you are handy with an o-scope and volt meters, you shold be able to look through the different circuits.
Starting with power distribution.
A VLF/MF signal generator would be very handy

Hi Merlin, I spent 40 years working on communications systems from hf to microwave, now it time to have fun with the old stuff. Thanks Chip

Old doesn't mean bad, some of my best equipment is a decade or older. Still using a Tectronics 465 scope I refurbished 4 decades back, still meets calibration.
Have fun you will.

Hi Merlin, just wanted to update you, I got the 712 working, I found a bad amp transistor & driver for the motor. Unit works great on a.m. but no beacons nearby they have all be shut down, I simulated a beacon with my service monitor, and it worked on 300khz. Thanks Chip
