Hey folks,

Wasn't sure if anyone knew, but Butel released the Beta version of ARC160 today, for the Pro 160/162. It only supports writing data to the scanner in banks 0 - 4 right now. It will not download anything from the scanner yet. If you want to try it, go to :

www.butelsoftware.com & then click on the downloads link, and then click Radioshack.

Didn't see it covered anywhere else yet, so if it is a repost my apologies. Have a great night !!!!

Gommert,

Question for you about the ARC160 software: In the Pro-162 there is the option to have a programmed channel put into CTCSS/DCS "search" mode, but in trying out the ARC160 software, I don't see an option for this.

Is this "search" choice likely to be added to a future version?

Also, any other additions to the software, such as adjusting any menu items?

Thanks!

You can set Search by selecting one or more cells in the PL/DPL column and then press 'S'.
Also when you doubleclick/F2 in a PL/DPL cell you should see the search option.

What exactly do you mean by 'adjusting any menu items?' , if you refer to the menu in the software that is not user editable.

Gommert, thanks for your quick responses! How did I miss that?! Definitely operator error on my end -- it was right there in front of me the whole time.

As far as the menu items, I was thinking of the menu selections in the scanner itself (backlight options, scan lists, delay, close call options, etc.), if that's even software adjustable.

One other question: When you enter a 7.5 kHz frequency in the ARC160 software, it rounds down quite a bit, maybe even too far. For example, if I enter 155.7425 in the cell the program rounds down to 155.725. This is probably too far away to pick up the frequency of 155.7425. Could ARC160 instead be adjusted to round to 155.745, the closest 5.0 kHz frequency, just as the scanner does?

Also, not sure if it matters, but I noticed in the drop-down box for CTCSS/DCS between DCS code 712 and 731 there appears to be a gap or missing number.

Your BuTel software is great, many thanks for making the hobby more enjoyable! :)

Thanks!

There are a few items that are software programmable, I will check and add them. Unfortunately the opening message is fixed.
I see that the default round in VHF is 25khz, I will lower that to 5khz. I also checked the DPL list and one tone is missing, I will fix that.

I don't know if this is a bug, or if the ARC160 software does not support sorting by alpha tag, or if I am just plain missing something, but...

If I double-click on the "Frequency" column the program will sort by either ascending or descending. That seems to work great.

But if I double-click on the "Alpha Tag" column the program does not sort by ascending or descending. It seems to be sorting by the length of characters in the alpha tag, not by the beginning letter of the alpha tag.

So if I input some channels named in this order:
Ambulance
Fire
Police
Repeater

Then I double-click the "Alpha Tag" column and this happens, sorting the tags with the fewest characters to the largest number of characters used:
Fire
Police
Repeater
Ambulance

If I double-click the "Alpha Tag" column again it sorts the other direction:
Ambulance
Repeater
Police
Fire

I can never get back to the original order that I input my channels as sorted A to Z. Is this something that can be tweaked in the program?

Thanks!
