Hi people,
I am learning how to program my own pro96 scanner. This process is almost as difficult as algebra to me.
I have managed to get some basic stuff loaded on, but noticed that all the frequencies and talk groups I've tried to load from RR don't show up (well duh I know 52 freqs for 49 spaces per group, ... )How do I span over to another group (number?) and still maintain the talk groups? I have figured out how to save onto the v-channels.. sort of , so I have some of the numbers there, and yes I know I only hear them if I open that v-channel. Also, how do I get 710 frequencies and numerous sites downloaded into the program without losing or missing any? (easier to figure out which ones I don't need when I can see them clearly on the frequency lists and talkgroup lists in arc96.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and I don't mind the occasional rotten tomato tossed at me for being such a noob!

ok so I understand I am supposed to check the "wiki".. but haven't managed to find the info I need there, and there are other arc products forums here, but I wasn't able to find the arc96 forum, sooo.... since I am a noob at this, I went to the noob forum. mea culpa in advance for everyone who reads and says "this isn't where it belongs'

Only download the specific sites you need and CC only using the multi site feature copy only the tg's you want. You also want to try Win96 as there are certian features it has that are easier sometimes to use. Also Win96 allows you to set up to a 4 second delay on trunking, whereas arc has an issue with this. I find it helpful to set up all the info in an excel spreadsheet then cp to arc... ARC96 seems better suited for more advanced setups.. while Win96 is more new user friendly.

Really? I personally found the win96 more difficult to understand (and no it wasn't the pretty windows like colors of the arc.) you can see what you are clicking on even if you don't know what it does..and its easy to save something I am unsure of to bring back up later when I might know more.

um... "cc" only? and "multi site feature copy"? and "tg"?
apparently I am more a n0ob than I thought. *sigh* oh for the days of the radio shack guy cloning it for me.....(of course I get the feeling I was missing out on frequencies that way...)
I haven't begun to understand trunking, or delays in trunking...
I don't have a spread sheet program and probably would need a tutorial on using that ,even if I did...so creating in excel is out of the question ,but a good thought for the future...something new to learn.

I scanned your area going up on 9/05 and returning on 9/07. In Radio Reference database, the Control Channels (CC) are listed in red while Alt CC are in blue. The 96 is a CC only scanner for Motorola and P25 Trunking systems. The DE State system is Motorola and I used the following frequencies for scanning all of US-13 up to PA line and into NJ.
868.212500
868.937500
868.962500
868.900000
868.650000
868.750000
866.100000
868.350000
868.587500
866.162500
866.762500
867.975000
868.500000
868.575000

These can be placed in a single bank and 150 talkgroups can also use same bank. I did the whole route using 150 public safety talkgroups and the above frequencies. My scanner is a PSR-500 & 600, but the 96/2096 will scan the same thing.

The system is constantly buzzing with activity.

"Oh, for the days...." Words spoken over and over when "seasoned" scanner-folks are introduced to the new platforms in today's scanning environment.

You sound as if you are wanting to learn more and one place to start would be to become more familiar with trunking. It sounds as if you have a very basic knowledge of how it works but reading Trunking Basics in the RR Wiki would probably give you the refresher you need to get jump started. CC (Control Channel) and TG (Talk Group) are acronyms used so frequently here that we never even notice when we "speak" in a vernacular that is unfamiliar for the Newbies.

Don't sell yourself short. You just need some education. :p

Thanks fmon and qlajlu
I'm working on learning how this all works.
I have managed (with milf's help) to program the scanner on win96 , if I can get it back to all the numbers I started with and the updated ones , I will be very happy. I still need some way to suck the info out that I put into the win500 program originally so I can make a win96 or arc96 setup with it, but I have yet to figure out how to manage that. So, still no fire/ems showing up even though I have downloaded the freqs and talkgroups etc from RR, I can't believe the whole state of delaware has had no calls...oh wait,... am hearing the medics being called in somewhere.... well that's a plus.
anyone have any ideas?

Try this Win96 file. I'm not licensed for ARC96.

Banks are as follows:
00 Statewide PS
01 Kent Co PS
02 New Castle PS
03 Sussex PS
04 Other SW PS

04 is a lot of feds

Thanks fmon ,
I downloaded the zip and am comparing notes and seeing the stuff I have missed somehow. There are so many that can be loaded just for delaware, I was amazed. Its a small state. wish the program had a way to compare two seperate files... or does it and I have missed how?

You can open with Win96 two files at once and bounce back and forth....I think you can have two ARC96's open... separate instances... I know if you try to open another file it will overwrite the one you have open and even warns you it will.
