Just wondering if anyone else notices that while monitoring ATL Public Safety (Fire) the TAC channels seem to just quit for a period of 6 hours or more. A couple nights ago, I would hear dispatch send incidents to "tac 4 or tac 3" yet never heard a word from those channels. Then the next morning, all seemed to be coming in fine. Anyone know why?

Thanks.

Sounds a lot like a programming error... Make sure you have CC-only set?

I wonder if they're doing a patch or multiselect overnight. If you're using a GRE-made scanner, this shouldn't be an issue. If you're using a Uniden-made scanner, make sure you're set to ignore status bits.

Nope, nothing locked out. Ive been monitoring this for months now and happens occasionally. Will go weeks when all channels come in fine then suddenly TAC channels drop out for 6 hours or more. I am using a Uniden BCD 996t so will check status bits per AndrewC75 recommendation.

Thanks a lot all.

ATL Fire

I have heard a similar situation on ATL Fire. One day, instead of dispatching on the main channel, a call went out on a TAC channel. In lieu of an alert tone.... the dispatcher actually said, "beep - beep". I could not believe it.

That was back in early Nov or Oct sometime.

Julian, Ive heard that before and Im pretty sure those are training excercises. They practice on an empty TAC channel.

Considering the long standing shenanigans going on down there, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't SOP. *snicker* :D
