Does anyone know what the antenna on the FAA building near I85 is? I assume it's some type of HF, but it looks like a big spiderweb.

Not familiar with that building, you talking about the Atlanta FSDO or is there another one? You have a picture or a better location?

I was actually talking about what I believe is the FAA regional office in these pics..If i'm landing on 8L it's off to the left near college park. There's some type of inverted web looking antenna. I was just curious about it because I wouldn't think they'd be on HF that often.

I know what building your talking about now, I have wondered why there is a Doppler on it as well, or at least a dome that looks like it would be. Seems like a lousy place to put one too. Wonder if it is for some TV station.

Domes are nice way to protect antennas of many varieties... It doesn't mean there is a weather radar underneath.

Just adds more to the curiosity! That's why I thought it couldn't be a radar, just because of the location, but don't really know what else it could be.

well that other building used to be FAA too I think, but now it's office space. Of course, I could be wrong.

It may not be an antenna after all. It may be a form of lightning protection, a web of metal designed to capture as much static energy as possible. These type of webbed lightning arrestors are all over Florida to protect antenna sites and I've seen a few here in Tennessee. Just a guess, based on what I'm able to see.
