I've made a couple of trips to the Atlanta Airport area recently. Tried the new ATL P25 on my 996.

Lousy performance on 996. Suggestions ???? Operating conditions as follows:

I had all the talkgroups set for Digital Audio
Operated in Search mode to p/u any talkgroup
Parked stationary on Virginia Avenue
Frequencies set NFM, which I normally do
Antenex ABSCAN scanner antenna.
Very strong signal displayed - also tried w/ atennuator - no improvement.

I operated w/ P-25 in "Auto" format where the scanner automatically sets itself to best de-code audio.
I tried in "Manual" format and would adjust between 6 and 9.
I also tried in "Default" format.

I was so disappointed at the lackluster performance of my 996 on ATL system.

Got way less than 50% success and very inconsistent.

I have seen some posts that indicate GRE/Rad Shack is better at decoding.

I was told by one that scanners have trouble decoding w/ multi-site transmitters. Slight difference in digital data stream. Well, what else did the designers expect in major metropolitan areas?

I put my 996 on the Atlanta System right after they went P25 and haven't had a problem with it. On my 396XT it even sounds better. Haave you got the latest firmware?

BTW - Coming to the ScanIn?

You must live in some magical part of the county were everything is decoded perfectly.

I am in a bad spot for reception apparently, my Pro-106 outperforms both the Pro-96 and BCD-996 that provide the Fire and Cities feed for ScanCobb, but even then I do not get perfect decoding on my 106.

Listening to Atlanta's P25? forget it.

No, just live at the base of Sweat Mountain (can't afford to live ON the mountain). When I head to ATL, I always switch my 996 over to the Atlanta DTRS and listen to it with ease. I'm using a Antennex Phanthom on the top of my truck as well. Even at ATL on my 396XT the reception is excellent.

I live in Smyrna and get a good signal on Atlanta DTRS. And when I drive to work everyday at Emory, I get great reception in my car (BC396T/RH96). In fact, I like the new digitial systems Atlanta and DeKalb now use much better than their old analog systems.
