Friday I was driving in Madison County with the scanner on (and that's news??) listening to P/S freqs. On 462.950, which is Med9 - only for medical use - I heard several conversations that sounded like a school bus operation. I was up in the NE part of the county, and it was a weak but audible signal. I lost it as I went west toward US29 and then back south. I'm thinking it might be over in Orange or Spotsylvania or even up toward Gainsville/Manassas. Can anybody watch this freq particularly mornings and afternoons, and let me know of any bus talk. This could cause serious inteference with the helicopter dispatch operations around here as they use Med9 all over the Piedmont.

RE: Bus Ops on Mem 9 462.950

I can say with absolute certainity that it was NOT Spotsylvania Co School Buses. They operate on an 800 EDACS system that has NO ACCESS to that frequency. Orange buses operate on 155.5650 CTCSS 179.9. Madison Co Buses I believe operate on an LTR system, but I have never heard them. Could have been Pegasus Helicopter based at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville. They use that frequency as their primary radio traffic. Other Medevacs do have that capablity, but other than that, I have no clue as to what you were hearing. Sorry!

Madison County buses do use an LTR system, which is audible from the Fredericksburg area. Here's the info:

463.2125 (1), 452.9875 (3), 461.1750
0-01-001 Buses
0-03-001 Buses

(I think they're only using one of the IDs, but I have heard both IDs.)

Culpeper buses are on talkgroup 2064 (analog) on Culpeper's system. Some of the buses may still use 154.5400 [156.7].

Fauquier buses reportedly only use cell phones, although they do have several analog talkgroups allocated to them on Fauquier's trunked system. They may eventually move the buses to the talkgroups.

The database says Greene uses 155.9250 [167.9] for school buses, but I'm unable to confirm this.

Louisa uses 154.1150 [173.8], according to the database. I believe I've heard them in the past, but haven't heard them recently. But I might simply be too far away.

I don't have anything to add to what radio said about Spotsylvania and Orange--that info was right on the mark.

I heard it again today, north of CHO airport. Not Pegasus or any other med-flight type ops, I'm very familiar with them. It was 2 women talking back and forth, things like running late and pulling in behind (insert number here). I'll keep searching and report back. Going to put FT100 back in truck which has better sensitivity and an S-meter.

I'm not sure Albemarle uses radios. They are not on the 800 MHz P25 system. I know the schools used to have a bunch of 154.57 and 154.60 radios long ago.

Maybe it's over in the Valley?

Keep searchin'

Albemarle school buses are on 453.8250 [131.8].

A good way to identify school districts is to listen for the names of schools. Then we can just Google the school name and find out who it is. I don't suppose you've heard them mention any schools?

Mystery Solved!

My Bad --- my new '396 was programmed with a system for state freqs, I wlways put MED9 & 10 in them for medevac. The alpha tag said Pegasus#1 but when I checked the freq it was 460.950, not 462.950! Big OOPS! That's licensed to a business repeater in Waynesboro, which explains the traffic I heard. Turns out I copied that bank from my AOR8200 lists, and it is the same way! Been like that for years, too!

Oh well, thanks to everybody for all your inputs. This just shows what a great resource this is!
