Okay guys I have been in the fire service in Waynesboro for 15+ years and have scanners every where but now the frequencies are being changed down here. SO has changed and the EMA (county fire and EMS) will be changing to a repeater in the next few months. I am aware of the new channel spacing and can would still get everyone fair, but I am looking to get a new scanner that has the truncking ability to listen to Augusta/Richmond. I use to listen way back before they changed. So I am looking for advice on a good scanner to buy.

Most of the trunked capable scanners on the market will handle your needs. The major players are Uniden and Radio Shack. It's like deciding on a Ford or a Chevy. I think they're all good, I've owned both brands and like them both. This website has some good forums to research the different models and brands. I personally like lot's of memory channels, fast scan rate, and the capability for software control via a PC.

Some of the Augusta comms are on the SC Palmetto 800 system. Lots of comms in SC are digital. I would check details to see if any digital is used on the Ga side. This would jack the cost of your scanner up-------way up. Good Luck, Larry

The Radio Shack PRO-97 is on sale at $149.99 until 11/23. If you stop by the RS in Martinez they will fully program your scanner for the enitre CSRA in about a minute plus provide you with an excellent frequency list to boot. See Troy or Eamon.
