Avatar Question

I hope this is the correct place to ask. I tried to change my avatar and got a message that said I could not upload animated images. The avatar I have been using for a long time is animated and the I'm pretty sure I've used the one that I was to replace it with before.

Animated avatars were eliminated long ago. Those who had them were allowed to keep them but no new ones were allowed. If you change it, you will no longer be allowed to use an animated one

Animated Avatars

Was the use of animated avatars prohibited because of the larger file sizes of some animated images or was it a display issue?
Just an inquiry!

Partly because of the distraction it caused. If a user had multiple replies in one thread, you'd see a pageful of jiggly,blinking things.
And maybe also there were members who failed to use discretion or good judgement and used "non-family friendly" images.
