WRONG Ayden has changed.

For whatever reason they have switched back to VHF, but they were given specific TGIDS on the VIPER System and to my knowledge were using it. Pitt County had a grant written to give every agency in the County VIPER handhelds.
Why they are not using it is unkown. SO please bare with use when we try to help.

Yes they were on viper

They were on viper for a while,I suspect they went back to analog because of "DIGITAL SCRAMBLE" I heard them complain alot of this.

Might have gone back to VIPER?

Why not call up the department and ask them which radio they are using.

Obtaining FCC licenses and programming the radios the police use is not a simple or cheap task, they won't just change frequencies on a regular basis.

The department will not give out that information i think. they are not on viper or analog frequency. you can hear their radios key up on analog but no audio ? there telephone number is 252-481-5844 if someone wants to call and ask nicely for there radio frequency.By the way they were not using the viper system because they dont have a tower on the southern side of pitt county.digital scramble. they were on viper for a while ,renting a tower space from witn tower in grifton n.c but that became too expensive. they are looking for a grant to put up a tower in southern pitt. but for now i cant get them on either analog or viper.

If you can hear them key but no audio then the problem most likely lies within your radio. If they were using some form of analog scramble or digital encoding on VHF then you would still hear that, not just dead silence.

its not my scanner

Its not the radio. My friend down the street stopped hearing them too.he has a scanner too and he can hear them key as well with no audio? We stopped hearing them after a large police involved incident where some police officers were assaulted and had to call several other agencies for help to battle gangs.

Sounds to me like they may have went crypto and your scanner obviously will not decode it. Could it be possible they have went to P25 conventional encrypted which your scanner would only mute on and not pass any audio at all?

Try picking them up on the input frequency if you are close enough. It was mentioned earlier in this thread the frequency is 155.490.

Well if nothing else you are persistent sidehustle. You have been chasing this thing for 4 years now and still can't nail it down. LOL

I don't normally reply to an 8+ month old thread that was raised from the dead, but I have an unconfirmed source that said they were "going back to VIPER after the P25 switch...". But again, before you scream how wrong I am, I prefaced it by saying that it's unconfirmed. I do not know this for fact since I don't live anywhere near there, so take it for what it's worth and check the P25 Viper stuff.

To elaborate on Draf's comment...look under Pitt County in the VIPER database
listing....you will find talkgroup 37532 is assigned to Ayden PD.
I would starting by programming the nearest VIPER tower site and the above talkgroup.

My fault i guess, i reprogramed my scanner from the rr data base and now its working they were on pitt county viper now they switched to the state wide viper project. i wonder does this mean if i were to travel to any part of the state i would be able hear any agency on the new viper system?

No. The only way you can listen to an agency on a VIPER tower is if there is a subscriber radio turned to that talkgroup parked on the tower you're attempting to monitor.

I hope this information helps.
