I live in Northen AZ and listen to District 2, 3 and 11 and all are on UHF still. I have not heard anything here on AZWINS in a while.

There are talk groups for Dist 2, 3, and 11 on AZ WINS, now often the UHF channels are patched or not I couldn't say. I hear Dist 11 daily on AZ WINS and often will hear Dist 3 units up on I-40 (3 & 11 must get patched together at times). As for what you will hear on AZ WINS will also depend on what sites you are able to monitor, not all talk groups are carried on all sites.

3 & 11 are patched a lot. So are 4 & 6 and 8 & 9. From the metro area, I just listen to 6, 8 and 11 to get all 6 districts (the D-8 transmitter on Mt Lemmon is an easy catch from my place in the East Valley.)

I am headed up to Holbrook on Friday. Anyone know if DPS remains on UHF and or testing on AZWIN?

If you have a SDS, try a 700Mhz scan for control channels.

Also Navajo Sheriff should be switched to their new DMR system.

Thank you all of you. I live in the NW part of the valley can’t receive Mt Lemmon over here. Yes I note that DPS has districts patched that I am able to monitor.

Patches might be for one or more of the following. CouId be a shortage of dispatchers, purposely increasing the load on AZWINS to test load capacity and output coverage or maybe DPS is considering having multiple adjacent districts patched so the troopers can monitor something headed there way.

Nevertheless DPS had pretty good coverage in the UHF band but it was time to update to new technology.

You won’t receive WINS control channels in Holbrook. Maricopa, Pinal and Yuma county only. No repeaters carrying WINS traffic that far north yet. Stick with UHF
