When I made the statement that AZ DPS hadn't used VHF High in 40+ years didn't make myself clear. I meant they hadn't used it for their primary mobile-base communications as they had changed to UHF. The existence of VHF High links for certain areas of, especially northwest Arizona, for links where microwave communications don't exist is certainly acknowledged. Covering I-15 in that corner of the state has its challenges as does covering the Arizona strip. The challenges of building and maintaining I-15 in the Virgin River narrows were foreseen by Arizona officials who lobbied for I-15 to be located west of the Virgin River. However, federal officials wanted the interstate system to be as straight and short as it could possibly be, so they lost in this battle.
