I am not sure if the LCD on my 436 has pixels, but there seems to be a bad area on my screen. It appears as a bright white spot. Is this covered under a warranty from Uniden? Does anyone know if the turnaround time is reasonable?

You can do a LCD screen test by doing the following:

Turn off the scanner.
Press and continue holding down both the "CHAN" and "1" buttons while you press the power button. Continue holding down the "CHAN" and "1" buttons after releasing the power button.

When the scanner powers on it will display an alternating grid on the screen.

My 436 has a similar bright spot around the same area. Doesn't affect the LCD segments at all.

It's not a bad pixel in the LCD, it's a flaw in the backlight diffuser behind the LCD. I have a similar thing at the very bottom edge of my 436 screen below the GPS indicator. It doesn't affect any actual LCD pixels, so I doubt I'll ever bother sending the scanner in to fix that.

Thanks, this is exactly what it is, as you can still see the bright spot during the LCD test, it appears behind pixels. Strange this happens to many of these, as long as it doesn't get worse I can live with it, although for the price I shouldn't have to.

It won't get any worse. It's not all that common, though, my scanner is the only one with that display issue I've seen out of dozens of 436s I've modded.

I have the same issue. It's been there for a while. Thanks for the answers. The pixel test showed there were no missing, damaged or abnormal pixels. Just the backlight flaw. It doesn't bother me bad enough to get it fixed, either.

Just curious, If I wanted to get this sorted out, any idea of cost? I looked on Uniden Support page and it appears the LCD is not covered under warranty?

do you have a source for that? This would be covered under warranty.

Apparently according to the notes on my repair status, this issue of the bad LCD is not covered by warranty. The only reason I sent this in was to get that covered, per your information, now they are telling me it is $79.95 and $10 to ship. I spoke to Jenna and she is going to get clarification on this. Seems there is a disconnect either with UnidenSupport or the repair facility, or Customer Service, or everyone.

If there was a disconnect and a uniden rep gave you mis information causing you to send your unit in for repair uniden should ship it back free to you and refund any monies you already spent on shipping it to them, thats the proper way for the business to handle mis trained employee issues.

I guess it's my fault, I assumed that the LCD was a defect that would be covered outside of warranty when the Uniden Rep said it would be covered, so I didn't ask if Uniden would cover it if was not within the year. I am not paying $79 since it doesn't affect the operation, just thought it would be nice to get it sorted.

I'll let the repair department know, and see if I can do anything about the shipping fee because I could have been more clear.

The messaging in the repair campaign so confusing, to me at least. I took it like this...If you have LCD issue, that is covered under the clock repair campaign. I sent my 436 & 536 in to get the clock campaign completed. In doing so, I assumed that both LCD's would be replace too if they were showing issues, which both clearly were, per your quote above from UpMan. I included a note about both LCD's on a post it note on both, per his suggestion in that thread.

He answered you in the other thread and now this one as well. You might want to go read it.

And, in fact, the BCD536HP you just sent in had the display backlight repaired along with the real-time-clock battery.
