I've noted them heavily coordinating on the Potomac TRACON freqs (in my case, the BWI ones are the freqs I usually hear; they certainly can use Dulles or Reagan's when the need arises). The TRACON freqs are in the RRDB. AFAIK they wouldn't go so high as to be in the ARTCC ZDC sectors, tho I suppose it's possible....

Agree with Mike above here that Med-Evacs tend to fly low in Class D airspace 2k feet or lower.
Try airport tower freqs like Martin State 121.300 which has MSP choppers stationed there that
double as Med-Evacs.Most airports operate their area Class D airspace on tower freqs.

In the Dulles area I've found that when the medevacs are transitioning from peripheral areas of Dulles to Fairfax Hospital they will contact Potomac Approach on 125.8 mhz.

This frequency is used by planes transitioning from 4,000 to 2,000ft and the east downwind transition. The controller tells them which runway to land on. Then the pilots are asked to advise when the field is in sight. The controller will then tell them to contact the tower on the appropriate freq.

Another thing about the freq, there is almost always static on it so it makes scanning my comm air bank difficult. :mad:

Does anyone happen to know what Air Traffic Control Center the medevacs in Baltimore converse with during flight?

Medevacs don't normally fly in ZDC airspace...I don't think I've ever even worked a "Medevac". I've worked TONS of Lifeguard...hmmm...but no Medevacs.

This is where "Old BWI approach" now called the Chesapeake (CPK) area hands off to "old IAD approach" now called the Shenandoah (SHD) area of Potomac.

During an IAD North Operation, aircraft are handed off to the MULLR sector on 126.1 6,000' and below.
125.8 is IADFE or Final East during a south operation, the airspace is 5,000' and below.
125.05 is ASPER Sector and is 5,500' and above

Hope I can get a tour at Potomac soon, maybe I can find out where the transmitter sites are.

JLHDU;
PCT is great looking facility with a unique design, one of the best I've been at. The room is circular with several concentric rings with the areas on the outer ring , with TMU and the OM in the inner rings that oversee the areas.

Most of the transmitters are at the airport RTR sites at IAD, DCA, BWI etc. There are some remote transmitters at FDK and on the Eastern MD shore.
