• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've checked reviews and they both seem the same, except for the price of course. If the wouxun is so much better I'd rather spend the price.

I need to put ham, gmrs, murs, weather and marine channels. I also need it compliance for 2013 narrowbanding so I can use it for commercial. murs I'll hardly ever use, I just want it for just in case I need it. Marine channels is mostly for monitoring except for emergency use. GMRS is just for now and then. It will be sued mainly for ham and commercial..

I recently bought a Wouxon KG-UVD1p (vhf/uhf and for the price, you can't beat it. BUT, it does have it's share of faults, especially with user friendly operation.

Such simple, user friendly options such as channel lock out found on all such radios do allow you to temporaily lock out channels but not this radio - to lock out a programed memory channel, you have to delete the channel! Want it back? You have to reprogram the frequency paramaters back into the channel location. And this (all models) radio is not a full duplex radio (can't be used as a cross bander) but gets the job done on both bands.

The newest Wouxon radios do now offer 2KHz steps for the new narrow banding changes you;ll need for some bands in the near future, The older models only go down to 5KHz steps.

On the plus side, you can't beat the price for a dual band, 5w walkie (around $110), its audio is fine (TX/RX0, The lithion - ion battery (1700mah) is awesome for days of RXing or several hours of TXing on a full charge.

I use my Wouxon for both 2m/440 and for public safety monitoring between. It's been on (even when recharging in the "smart Charger" that comes with the radio since I got it 3 months ago, 24/7. These radios come in two "flavors", limited ham TX with all band RX or open full band TX/RX (the "international 'model") so if you want it to do what you want, inquire as to the seller's model for full band Tx/RX.

I weighed the two and ended up choosing the Wouxun based on user reviews. I found enough user reviews on eHam that stated that the Baofeng had a tendency to be off-frequency to scare me off. I have owned the KG-UV6D v2 for a few weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it.

In spite of it's slow scan speed (about 4-5 ch/sec), it's even doing a good job for me as a public safety scanner since my 11 year old Bearcat finally decided to die.
