    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Once I get the cable and interface with CHIRP to get the config and version number / add'l info, I'll start a new thread on it should it need further discussion. At this point, I know I bought two of the same model radios, which have different features, and behave differently. Likely because of different firmware versions.

Does anyone have the default img file for a uv-5r BFS311/BFS297? I have learned the hardway of loading an img file from different firmware revisions. The one I am having trouble with will not work with the mic on radio but a headset will work. When I loaded the latest chirp I now get the message that some functions were loaded but not all due to different revision, but this is all after I used an older chirp that allowed it.

I went through similar issues when I loaded an img file from a BFS313 to a N5R-20 and I now know the importance of loading the proper img file using chirp.

What I found out with the N5R-20 was when I loaded an improper revision was the radio could recieve but not transmit. Future reference for others that may have the same problem. This does not seem to be the issue if stock software is used that comes with cable, just chirp.

Thank you for any help anyone can offer.
