To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have programmed my unit using the RR database BUT I have a Talk group that does not exist in the imported version and I would like to manually add it. How do I do that? Im a bit of a Newbee. Also have one TG in my G4 that is labeled wrong. How to fix that also.

I sure appreciate any help.

Thanks

In PPS V4 you should be able to do that in tab E2, select the system you have imported and then the TGs. Make sure to click save when done.

Mr. RaleighGuy, I looked at what you said about it being in E2 and I do see the list of TG’s but it’s not on that list, it’s in the national radio reference but I don’t see it on the list anywhere else so is there any way for me to manually enter the hexadecimal numbers for the TG and if so how?

What version of the PPS are you using, V3 or V4? The instructions are different for both.

In V4 go to tab E2, find the system you want to add a TG to or the system you need to change the TG name, then go over to the TGID LIST and Click on the block for your system

This will open a new box, either click add and enter the information manually, or find the TG name that is wrong and correct it. Make sure to click on SAVE (bottom left corner).

If you have PPS V3 it is different.

I’ve got another question for you, I have a simulcast site in one system that doesn’t have actual numbers for the Talk group other than a ones basically? I’m wondering how do I find and enter a simulcast into a system?

First of all it doesn't matter if it is simulcast or not on the G4, all P25 sites are the same. Secondly, I have no idea what you were trying to say in your post.

Let me take a guess though and say no talkgroups are listed in the Radio Reference database for that system? Maybe you can share what system (location and agency at least, RR database link to speed up the response) this is and we can look at it. If there are indeed no TGs in the system enter TG 65535 and you need to figure out which each one is, log and listen and try to figure it out based on addresses and traffic types.

You are correct it is a big group, My question is why does it list a Simulcast and Control Freq's near the beginning to the List of TG's?

Because those are the sites and frequencies for that system, you need that info to listen to the TGs

just feel the PPS is not very intuitive

Keep in mind, hobbyists jumped on the Unication bandwagon, but the pagers were created for commercial/public safety users, most who have comm techs with a lot of knowledge in programming.

I would like to fine a SIMPLE explanation of how RR, Profiles, Importing from RR works?

Really don't know how much easier they could make RR imports, go to tab C-C1 and then click on IMPORT FROM RADIO REFERENCE, bright orange button, enter credentials, and select info on the pop up box.

Capture1.PNG

It is now saved in the PPS for importation to your code plug in tab E2 click add select from resources and choose the system.

Keep in mind if you want to add new TGs later to the stored system you need to do it manually in both C1 or E2.

The only way would be to change the name to the TGID. I have never heard of anyone wanting to do that, but.

In using the G4 to scan all in area with Wildcard for sites and Groups, Is it wise to turn on FULL SPECTRUM SCAN also for each? I am unclear how that works and what benefit is. I am having issue at times with my G4 randomly going out of range for not reason so wonder it this might help. Thanks for Help.
