Hey, all!

I could use a hand on this one. A short while ago, I submitted the DB change to Summit800 for Bath Service Department (38768). I did this off of recorded audio of the phrase "Bath township testing service channel on digital." It was clearly a voice I recognized as a Bath PD/FD dispatcher.

I was in the process of trying to verify what on the Bath system is still used. I know all of the PD and FD are on Summit. I have two talkgroups on Bath active tonight of service departments out plowing. Neither are in the database. I could use some help in ID'ing these:

50704
49968

I'll do some recording of this system overnight and see if I can get some road names. My goal is to ID these, remove the unused stuff, and get a correct Bath 800 DB entry.

Partial self-answer.

50704 appears to be Bath Service department. Heard mention of Charles Ln and Robins Ridge. Both are Bath according to the Summit County Auditor.

Perhaps that Bath on Summit 800 is future use???

Is Bath system still analog, maybe keeping because the radios are cheaper and County-wide coverage is not needed?

The cynical side of me says they are keeping the old system to keep some employee un-gainfully employed.

Doubtful. After 2011 service on analog pre-Astro25 Motorola systems will be "best effort" only, meaning if they have the replacement parts they'll fix it; if the parts are no longer available, they'll do the best they can but no guarantees. Same goes for the older analog-only radios (including the MTS/MCS series radios).

I'm thinking the existing Bath 800 analog system will be shut down when Bath/Fairlawn/Copley/Norton move to their own P25 system next summer for Police / Fire. They sure won't need three 800 mhz systems. Public Works could then move to Summit 800, since Summit County will be maintaining the new P25 system for them. Just a logical guess.

Programming Help- OH-Summit Co 800 TRS - In WIN500 do I set for MOT 800/900 or P25 AUTO ???
In the RR Database the OH-Summit Co 800Mhz TRS is listed as a Motorola Type II Smartzone ...
and indicates that both Analog and APCO-25 modes are used and TG modes include A, D & a few E !
I am sending someone a New Pro-106 as a Christmas Present and REALLY NEED 100% Accuracy.
btw ~ The Factory V-Folder lQQks old but has it listed as MOTO 800/900 and 4 CC's only entered.
ps ~ Well on to entering the OHIO MARCS TRS P25 Auto system mainly for OSP - locked wildcard, etc

HELP HELP HELP I Have to Be at the Post Office in less than 2 Hours - Yikes Michael-SATX

Michael,

Use MOT 800/900 for both Summit800 and MARCS. The System Type indicates how it should be set up. System Voice just says it is analog/digit/etc. P25 doesn't support analog talkgroups. Both P16 and P25 support encrypted (E) audio.

An example of a system you would use P25 for is Parma's P25 system (Parma (Project 25) Trunking System, Parma, Ohio - Scanner Frequencies). Notice how it's system type is Project 25.

Frank, it's GREat (shameless plug here, get it ? ) that you live in Akron, OH same as my Pro-106 recipient.
So lQQking at the Summit Co 800 TRS system in RR, I see three mode types, will the scanner automatically shift into "DG" mode when the "D" mode talkgroups like Akron PD TG's ? Also, it
would make sense that say the Akron PD Arson TG that "E" would either be "muted" and stay silent
or one would hear an annoying noise when these talkgroups are received. As we in San Antonio live
in EDACS "No-Voice" w/ESK land, I don't get to test drive a MOTO 800/900 TRS like yours in Akron.
Do these "E" TG's ever appear in the clear in either "A" or "D" modes, or do you program them in
Lock/Out as to not be bothered by these "E" TG's ?

I lQQked at the Ohio, MARCS TRS mainly for the OSP and Holy Cow, are there enough diff towers ?
What site or sites do you RX the best in Akron ? Also, Wayne Co ( Orvile ) area if you might know ?

Do you have either a Pro-106/197 or a PSR-500/600 and just happen to do Don Starr proud
and use WIN500 v1.97 ish ? I would love to shoot you my WIN500 file and also see how you setup your
scanlist layouts and how you setup your "Trunking Tables/Band Plans/Multi-Site-Mode" settings ... ?

Shoot me a PM and I will send you my much slaved over WIN500 file to critique and grade :)) Michael

PS ~ I see in the RR Database that the Summit Co 800 TRS is VERY, VERY well documented !!!
Do you suppose that is from all you good RR folks and or did some lucky guy get to "read" an
and actual Public Saftey Issue Radio ? The sheer detail is so nice to see as so many cities are
totally totally Un-ID and ??? all over the place ~ you Akron area folks are on the ball and
can be proud of your collective efforts using and submitting to RR for all to share and enjoy !
As SATX is the 7th largest city in the USA, I get pretty bumbed out that more here in SATX
don't active participate in the identifying and submitting to our RR Database ~ but thankfully many do ;)

I can't speak to the abilities of RS scannes. I'm a loyal Uniden guy, having just sold my 10 year old PRO-92. I do normally not program any encrypted talkgroups. They are full time encryption on Summit, but some MARCS encrypted channels do carry unencrypted traffic at times.

Thanks so much for the comment on the quality of the Summit RRDB content. Most of the info was from me and a handful of others. I use ProScan to constantly record audio. Uniden's newer radios make it easy to scan in open mode. It works kinda like a PRO-92 in (-) mode, but scans what's not locked out. I just lock out all of my known scan lists and end up scanning the unidentified talkgroups.

That said, there are a few talkgroups that aren't documented yet. It takes patience to wait for enough recorded audio to ID a rarely used talkgroup.

I'd be happy to look at your handy work, if you can send it in text format. PM it to me.

Does anyone know the status of Summit County Ohio's 800 mhz rebanding? I'm assuming that Bath, Copley, and Fairlawn would be included in the rebanding.

Rebanding will be "soon" .. as in 2011 .. those dates are a moving target with rebanding.
Be alert for future notifications, I'm sure we'll get the info out there.

Fairlawn / Bath / Copley / Norton will move off Summit 800 to their own P25 by summer. They will move back to Summit 800 when Summit upgrades to P25 ... unknown future date.
