Hullo.

I apologize if this is the wrong place for thus post but I figured I'd try local 1st. . I guess a mod can move it to the correct place.

The plastic cover for the battery pack, the latch snapped off today. I can't keep the battery in the radio now without tape, and it's a white trash solution and temporary.
I'm wondering if I'm stuck with Uniden down in Texas to order a replacement part, not a fan of them, I can try Scannermaster whom I like to see if they have this part.

Does anyone in Central or SW Ontario have an extra part lying around? I can't travel far outside the GTA, I'm retired and on a pension but I could take GO or even VIA to London or Peterborough I guess, I don't have a car anymore.

I wouldn't care because of FleetNet's coming demise but I'm not looking to let this scanner go just yet.

Any and all help here would be appreciated and I'd pay for the part and shipping if local.
I'm trying to avoid a solution from the USA because of shipping and handling fees are usually almost criminally overpriced.

You could do an internet search for a SDS 100 battery latch. Usually one can get two latches and pins for about $20 USD. Its not hard to change it out. One should look at the battery for swelling which caused my latch to break.
Good Luck

Eric, let's give it a try here in Ontario, first. If after a while, if you want more visibility in another forum, please report your first post and either a Super Moderator or I will move it for you.

I'm kind of in a similar situation with the volume knob on my 536. It broke in half after ten years of use. I checked Uniden and the part is $2. To ship to Canada is $50. I went to Sayal and found a somewhat decent replacement, but there is too much wiggle.Inside the Uniden piece is a metal sleeve that has some spring to it. Uniden charges $5 for that metal sleeve. The Sayal piece doesn't allow the sleeve to be inserted.
I'm on the look out for a junked BCT 15, 996 or others that use the same knob. I just turn the bare post to turn on and adjust volume.

To be honest I'm using SDR more frequently than turning on a scanner these days.

Yeah, tucked away in a drawer. . . super glue and me never end well.

Two hours later:

So, I pushed the metal sleeve back on the post. Super glued the two halves together. Let it sit ten minutes. Gently pushed the repaired knob as far as it would go on the post. Seems snug now. I may use this scanner again!

Mike:
Ya, I've had 3 to 5 days of not having a scanner on these days, there's less to listen to and my Air conditioner is on alot these days, hard to monitor while watching TV or listening to regular radio.

My volume knob is broken as well. It drives me insane!!!

I've been out of the shipping and receiving game for over ten years but I'm well aware of what shipping charges should be and $50 is a ripoff! Uniden should try to male some $ while shipping but what they are doing, and it's a joke, they are telling you to bend over without...... u can guess 😏

I rarely travel with it anymore, I don't know why I brought it to Toronto in my knapsack.

I'm not sure if the battery has expanded, I don't have a comparison, but it might have. If that's the case I'll probably buy another battery, I guess.

Thank you Scott. I have PRIME.

I really appreciate responses to this. I didn't know if anyone would be able to give advice and solutions.

I'm happy people did.

This has been a little nightmare.
I ordered this from Amazon, not knowing it was from a seller.

First a delay which is fine.

Then it goes out for shipping on Thursday and never arrives.
Then I have to spend 30 minutes with Amazon to get my money back.

I'm not even sure I even want this part if it's some scammer selling it. We're about to lose Fleetnet why spend $ on this? PSRN doesn't work for me anyways.

I don't know where else to look for this. Someone mentioned ebay.

This is the 1st Amazon Prime order that failed, possibly foreshadowing our scanner experience and losses in Ontario, I'm superstitious about this stuff

I was told to order it again but I'm kinda gunmshy on this. I'm not sure which vendor I should buy it from.

It's cheap but the CAD$ is what 70% of the USD? And shipping, they kill you on shipping.

Besides Uniden which wants $50 shipping, perhaps someone here can recommend someone on eBay to trust

I'd appreciate it.

It's a small part. Sometimes if you contact the seller they will just throw it in an envelope and mail it to you. The there are some seller who sell at a decent price and then ask a million dollars for shipping. My attitude there is ask a fair price for the item and then regular shipping rates. Getting hit with a $50 shipping for a 8 dollar part just makes you feel ripped off.
