I have WIN 500 software that is for my GRE PSR500 HH scanner . The unit for the 2nd time has a charge problem (fixed once by G&G who did a gr8 job) .... SOOOOooo I bought a new Whistler WS1040 . I dumped in my win500 stuff , threw in niMh batteries(YES externally charged) and ...w t h ...it played for 15 mins !!! DEAD . Put in FRESH niMh externally charged .... 10 mins ...dead ....did that 5 times with different batteries in the pack ! Can someone tell what settings I NEED to maybe change in the WIN500- battery settings ,that are different than the PSR500 was ? B T W the PSR500 would run 10 plus hours on the same type batteries !!! Puzzling . Whistler said it should run just like the PSR 500 programmed with the win500 program with no changes ..so I am baffled . Thanks ahead of time . PS yes I am aware of the CALIF charge thing

Are you sure that the batteries are dead? Did the scanner actually shut down or did it start to indicate low-dead batteries? I don't know on the 500 but my 800 has a programing function that will allow you to change the point where the scanner will alarm for low battery. There also is a switch to change between NiMh and regular alkaline cells.

batteries were freshly charged ..voltage looks fine...one pkg was brand new ...it was so dead each time the screen error was displayed recharge or replace batteries . I am sure it may be a setting in the win500 that could be confusing the scanner but not sure what battery settings to use now ..

I have NOT yet changed any win500 battery settings previously used in the GRE PSR500 . All is so far so good will know after a few more BATTERY cycles in this Whistler WS 1040. AH HA ..... well been using 2 external chargers for the niMh checked output and it appeared all the batteries were ok ..right off the charger BUT low and behold ...... ONE of them chargers had an oxidized contact ... got it cleaned off and WAH LAH ..... WS1040 has gone on for well over 12 hrs with the 2300 and 2350mah niMh batteries . JUST to also note on the WS1040 I DID NOT adjust the BATTERY SETTINGS in WIN500 any different from those settings on the GRE PSR500 . thanks
