I’ve been annoyed with my Eton Executive Elite for a few days because the batteries need charging (again), and I refuse to look the manual on how to charge it. It’s ridiculous I think that they ever sold these this way. Why can’t you just plug it in? And, it takes about 20-22 hours to fully charge the batteries, and it seem like they don’t last long between charges.

Alas, I want to use the radio, so tonite I broke down and put some regular AA’s in it. Problem solved.*

Actually, no. I still want to use rechargeable AA’s in it. So, next step is to get a dedicated battery charger and a new set of nimh AA batteries. Meanwhile the Eton Elite is performing well. 🙂

rechargeable batteries do get old and loose capacity.
out of the hundreds i have bought, only a handful were under their stated capacity.
like a new 2500mah cell when tested only came up with 1600 to 2000.
at a certain point they go into the solar lamps.
and some radio just charge by time, and don't stop when full.
per the manual
If the battery is fully charged or the charging time set is over, the charging is completed.
so it looks like it stops when full, great.
but full does not mean they are all good.
if 1 out of the 4 are bad, the radio will quit sooner than normal.
i would get a charger that can give you the true capacity of each cell.
to give you an idea here is a discontinued charger.

you can set it to analyze each cell.
and then i pair them up.
for my radios i just grab the best 3 and then the next 3 for each scanner that takes 3 cells.
so look for one that is like that one.

i did look for it on line and some folks complained about the short battery life.
