 To all of the 296,250 and other Uniden scanner owners that radios uses the original battery pack. I had a battery pack made for $15 including the batteries 4 of the AA 2500mah standard size nickel-metal hydride rechargeable. It is larger than the original pack but will fit in to the radio. I fully charged it last night. started running the 296 at 9:15 AM and is still going strong .

For the 296.

The radio runs between 280-300 mah with digital card enabled.

Charge rate is around 100 mah so to fully charge the battery with the supplied wall wart it will take 25 hours. (And makes for a nice hand warmer if the radio is running while charging)

Custom battery pack fully charged at 2500 mah should run around 8.33+ hours before complaining about low battery.

Phil.

yea no **** , i think what they mean is where you can get one and specifics of it.. dumb^ss

I'm glad your having to interpret what they were trying to say. Your wisdom is most welcome.

I'm sure he wanted to know how he could charge the new battery back faster inside of his radio. However this is not possible. Therfor my answer was to the point. The only way to charge the batteries faster is externally.

Personally I use the MH-C777PLUS-II Universal LCD Charger. What is great about this charger is it has an "alligator clip-lead cable" adapter. I have the Molex connector connected the adapter cable so all I do is take the battery pack out of the radio and plug it in. By the way, I have 2 battery packs, thus always have a charged battery pack. This isn’t the easiest way to do it, however it works great.

Dropping the "S" bomb and calling a mod a dumb bass in a thread. Not cool at all.

As mentioned the maha charger is the best option for for rapid charging specialty packs. However it will cost a few bucks.
