I Just very recently bought a 60XLT-1 and I was thinking about using my BNC-F adapter to have a longer make-shift antenna with some 75 ohm coax I have on hand, but I noticed the connectors were slightly different. It appears that the scanner antenna does not have a center pin in the connector but a hole instead with the pin being part of the scanner itself. Is this normal or did I buy a partially broken unit? If it is normal, what type of connector/antenna do I need?

This is what it should look like... You need a BNC Male to connect to the scanner.

While your photo looks like what I have, the connector can't be BNC male. Every BNC male I looked at online has a center pin in the connector which will not fit.

Here is a photo of my antenna. You can see there is a hole where the center pin is usually at. I tried to use my BNC male connectors and they do not fit.

That's what I figured you had. You would need to find something like this... But I didn't see any with a male pin configuration.

That's not right... let me search again...

If I can't change the antenna then I guess I will eventually get rid if it. This one was the right price at the right time but I guess I should of waited and bought something better and newer.

The white nylon or whatever piece inside is of a male connector... So the pin has to be missing...

Even if the pin is missing short of not making a connection your saying it wont attach to the scanner BNC?

I see notches on the outside barrel... like for some kind of spanner wrench to tighten...
I don't think that is a BNC type... Does it have threads on the inside... cant tell from picture...

BNC

It appears that you have a BNC male on the antenna that is missing the center pin. That would normally connecto to a BNC Female that is typically mounted on the scanner. If the broken pin is still in the BNC female on the scanner, that would prevent you from connecting the correct BNC male to it.

You can not connect two BNC males to each other unless you use a double female adapter.

If your BNC-F adapter is MALE(BNC)to Female(F), then the antenna will not work with it, but it should connect to the scanner BNC female OK. If not, then check the center pin on the scanner to make sure nothing is filling the female center pin.

There is an ouside chance that your antenna has what's called a reverse BNC. If where you would expect to see a pin, you see a small female socket, then this is probaly what you have. It is NOT compatible with standard BNCs

As a general rule, the gender of a connector is specified as the gender of the center pin/socket, not of the shell/barrel.

The puzzling part is if you look at the picture he took... BNC's don't have notch's in the outer barrel like I see there.

BNC

Other than the poor focus, the antenna connector looks like the one you have in ther previous pic. There has to be a notch to clear the "tabs/nubs" on the female connector.

I understand the tab/nub thing ... been working with BNC's for years...
What I see is were the nub's would drop in but the end actually has a slot... The barrel is not solid around the exterior... like a normal BNC... It has like a split...
I know what a reverse polarity BNC is... It kind of does look like that... Except for that slot...
