Hey everyone,

Long time lurker and frequent database user here at RadioReference. Invaluable site!

Question for Paul/Uniden and a call for input from the member base. There is a VHF Motorola Smartzone system up here in Canada that covers the entire province of Ontario. Problem is the voice transmissions are NFM when my BC246T only allows for FM modulation of that system type. The result is audio output levels that are very low, seeing as how the scanner thinks we're dealing with FM when in fact the system is using NFM.

The system is one of the two critical ones I monitor here in Ontario. Its an interesting system with analog EMS transmissions and digital 'State Trooper' traffic that the 246 filters out in ID Scan mode.

I realize that the 330 has this option available, but I'm also aware that you can edit the Modulation type quite easily when programming in conventional frequencies on the 246. I love mine to death but having such a range of volume when monitoring several trunked systems at once gets quite annoying.

Anyone else have a similar system in their area? I really dont want to have to sell my 246 and purchase a 330 when I think this could be fixed in a new firmware upgrade pretty easily.

Thanks,

Another 'Paul' :)

If you find out please let me know, see my rant a few threads back. I am having the same problem listening to amb in southern Ont. Also notice the 246 has less sensitivity with the mot system compared to edacs.

This should be a sticky thread until we get a yes answer.

And Yes, would be a sweet answer to get.

Is there any other provinces that use a NFM VHF set up like Ontario?

Capital Region Emergency Services Telecom (CREST) in the Victoria, BC area. I have seen a few emails bouncing around quoting the same problem.
