I am thinking about purchasing a BC246T. This will be my first scanner. Does anyone on this forum use one of these scanners in the Tulsa area. If so, how well does it work. Also I have been trying to understand the new re-banding that is on-going. Will the 246T still work in this area after the re-banding. My primary interest will be police, fire, rescue services at this time until I become better educated in this new world of scanners. Thanks for any and all help.

I've used a BC246T and it works great for Tulsa scanning (covers most of the trunked and nontrunked systems you'll ever hear). The only downside is that it is analog only. It has an older brother, the BC396T (which is what I eventually upgraded to). Tulsa keeps talking like they'll upgrade to APCO 25 digitial, but I haven't heard anything new in a while. Unfortunately the main digital traffic on Tulsa's system is encrypted (EMSA), so a digital capable scanner cannot hear it.

Even though the rebanding issue hasn't been completely finalized, Uniden has claimed that they will upgrade the BC246T and BC396T firmware once the final plan is put in place. Something along the lines of "no guarantee, but we'll probably be able to do it". Their posting is somewhere up here in RR.

I think the BC246T will work good for your needs. I don't live near Tulsa but it is great for conventional frequencies and analog trunked systems. I would suggest purchasing a programming software, it will make your life easier. I don't think you will disappointed with a BC246T.
