Rush this is an almost impossible question to answer without knowing where you are. Up in the blue toolbar to the left, under the title of the thread, is a link called User CP Please add the county/state you are in - that will assist in getting the most accurate advice from local users.
Most areas these days are into trunking, which neither of these radios will do (unless you are in a rural area, where conventional is still the rule in some places). In addition, it's not unheard of for a county to be using a digital format.
Point is, you may be looking at some bucks of an outlay. Finding an used scanner, or watching for one on sale, is one way to go. But we may be getting ahead of ourselves. Answer this simple question...
