I don't want to make this more complicated for myself by working with cables, drivers, etc. All I want to do is program a MOT II 800MHz system. The online manual isn't very clear to me. I have no problems with conventional frequencies, just trunking. I have a list of the frequencies, talk group id's. Could somebody give me simple instructions on how to program a trunked system into my scanner? thanks in advance.

I just programmed a MOT II system yesterday, by hand ,in my 346XT.

1. Program new system
2. When it ask for type scroll to Motorola, hit yes.
3. If you have it set to control channel(s) only that is all you need to put in.
4. set the system to ID search, that way when the TGs pop up you can just hit the E (YES) button, this will store the talk groups in a quick save bank . Then you can go through later and name and/or lock out specific talk groups.
5. If you want (or need) to at step 3 you can enter all known freq. for the system. Make sure you have the control channel only mode off though if you decide to do this.

I realize that this Easier to Read BC246T Scanner Manual is not your scanner, but they all seem to be about the same for Mot II. Try this instruction. I did not see any Mot II for Queens County, New York (NY) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference so if you still need help, please provide link to the system you are trying to program.

Thanks, I got as far as editing the name of the new system. From there I got lost. This is what I want to program into my bc346xt.

Thanks, I got as far as editing the name of the new system.
so you are here:
Scroll to 'Set Frequencies' and press E/Yes.
At 'New Frequency' and press E/Yes.
At 'Input Frequency' enter the frequency (
935.45000 ) and press E/Yes. At 'Edit Frequency' press Menu to return to 'Sel Frequency', scroll to 'New Frequency', and press E/Yes to program the rest of the trunking frequencies.935.46250 and then 939.18750 Press Scan to exit.

In the Systems menu, Set C-Ch Only(Motorola only)allows you to enter just the control channels(red and blue) for a Motorola system. The scanner will then find any active voice channels and any new voice channels.
Scroll to 'Set C-Ch Only' and press E/Yes.
Scroll to one of two settings and press E/Yes to save and exit.
set the system to ID search, In the systems menu
Scroll to 'ID Scan/Search' and press E/Yes.
Scroll to 'ID Search' and press E/Yes to save and exit.

that way when the TGs pop up you can just hit the E (YES) button, this will store the talk groups in a quick save bank

Thanks Capt, problem is that when I press scan it scans "Custom 8" 400Mhz frequencies, I figure this must be pre programmed into the radio, then for a second it scans for the talk group id's for the system that I put in. So what I am doing is locking out every time it stops at one of those 400Mhz frequencies. How do i delete "custom 8" if at all possible?

I deleted all the city systems in my radio, but I may have programmed this "custom 8" by accident. Starts scanning from 420-450MHz, amateur bands.

How do I get to the set frequencies? I am trying to program the other system, 800MHz. I got as far as editing the name of the system. For this one I will put in all of the 14 frequencies and from there search/scan for TGID's.

Maybe you activated one of the search keys:
SearchKeys < UnidenMan4 < TWiki Not sure how to deactivate, but maybe you just don't selected anything when you go to program that key. Check each key to see if any custom range has been selected.

It's the same process (select Moto Type II for the system).. You just enter the red control frequencies : New York City Transit Authority Trunking System

I found out where the custom 8 was stored but don't know how to delete it. I know what frequencies to enter into the scanner, what I meant by my question was how do I get to it on the scanner(set frequencies)unable to get to that function, got it yesterday but I forgot how today.

program system, new system, mot, edit name, then I see edit sys option, edit site, edit group, copy system, delete system, can't find or get to "set frequencies function." thanks!

To Program a new Motorola system, press Menu. At 'Program System' press E/Yes.
At 'Select System' scroll to 'New System' and press E/Yes.
At 'Select System Type' scroll to 'MOT' and press E/Yes.
Scroll to the type of Motorola system you want to program and press E/Yes.
Use '800MHz type II
At 'Confirm?' press E/Yes.
At 'Edit Name' press E/Yes. See Entering Text.
Scroll to 'Set Frequencies' and press E/Yes.
At 'New Frequency' and press E/Yes.

Or, if you want to continue with the system you started:
To program a new channel, press Menu. At 'Program System' press E/Yes.
At 'Select System' scroll to system where you want to program a channel and press E/Yes.
Scroll to 'Edit Group' and press E/Yes.
At 'Select Group' scroll to the group that you want to program the channel in and press E/Yes.
Scroll to 'Edit Channel' and press E/Yes.
At 'Select Channel' scroll to 'New Channel' and press E/Yes.
At 'Input Frequency' enter the frequency and press E/Yes.

Instead of "Input Frequency", it says Input TGID (DEC).

I figured out how to remove the pre loaded search channels. While in scan mode, press ./no and then the
2 digit search key that the custom channel is on. I have one system programmed(900MHz), with the TGID's saved, one more to go(800MHz), not sure if it is easier to make an new system for that or just add it to the other system. I will keep trying, I am learning as I go along, thanks for your patience.

Ok, I am using prompts from the 246, which is the predecessor of the 346. I would start over with new system. That way, the prompts should match what you have done before. The one you have started won't affect anything since you have not entered frequencies.

I will figure it out eventually, it's just a matter of time. If I program 2 different systems, one trunked and one conventional, when I go to say the trunked system, press scan after a few seconds of silence it will start scanning my other system. Do I have to lockout the other system so it doesn't go back and forth?

What I did was delete that conventional system so I can scan and listen to my only system that is in there now(trunked). My question is say I have 5 different systems programmed, but I only want to scan and listen
to just 1 of them, do I have to lockout the other 4 systems to do this?

This is what system quick keys are for. Just hitting a quick key number 1-10 while scanning turns off/on the system with that quick key number.

Edit Conventional System Options:
Press Menu. At 'Program System' press E/Yes. At 'Select System' scroll to the system that you want to edit and press E/Yes.
Scroll to 'Edit Sys Option' and press E/Yes
Set Quick Key assigns a system to a quick key and will be scanned when the key is turned on. The default setting is no quick key.
Scroll to 'Set Quick Key' and press E/Yes.
Scroll to the quick key number (or . for no quick key) you want to assign to the system and press E/Yes to save and exit.

I programmed the other trunked system yesterday but deleted it since it was switching back and forth with the other system while scanning. I did put in different numbers for the system quick keys, there are also quick keys for groups.

The online manual only goes so far, it is not clear or specific. Hopefully a how to wiki comes out soon for my radio only(BC346XT). I am learning something new about my radio every day so eventually it will all come into place.

System Quick Keys (SQKs) allow you activate and deactivate systems for scanning. The single digit SQKs are toggled between active and inactive by pressing the corresponding key on the keyboard. The two digit SQKs are toggled between active and inactive by pressing the ./NO key followed by the two digits on the keyboard.

The display

S0:1234--7**0 indicates that SQKs 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 0 are active;
SQKs 8 and 9 are inactive; and SQKs 5 and 6 are unassigned.

S1:12---678** indicates that SQKs 11, 12, 16, 17, and 18 are active;
SQKs 19 and 10 are inactive; and SQKs13, 14, and 15 are unassigned.

Etc. to S9:12345678790

There can be more than one system assigned to a SQK.

Each system can have up to 10 Group Quick Keys (GQKs). The indicator for the GQKs is the line below the SQK line and works the same way except that it only has ten possible values and therefore is only
single digits.

GQKs can be toggled active and inactive by pressing FUNC and the keyboard number while the scanner is scanning the particular system which contains the groups that you are controlling.

Hope this is helpful.

Dick
