I was attempting to buy a BC355N, either here in Canada, or from a dealer in the US who will ship to Canada for a reasonable price, but this radio seems to be out of stock EVERYWHERE. Why is this radio so popular?

I don't know what your looking to monitor... But you do know that the BC355N is an Analog Scanner only...
Not Digital...

Thanks everyone, however this is a radio I want strictly for air, rail, and analog business, to enable me to use my BC 996 P2 strictly for the local P25 traffic.

I understand it works very well for air and rail etc.

If you have a Walmart around were you are at, they do show it...

BearcatWarehouse lists it but don't know what the shipping policy is to Canada...

Walmart Canada listing...

You may wish to wait and check out the new BCD260DN that is designed expressly for air and rail fans.
Thats another choice if he is willing to wait for it's release...
If it was me... I would wait...

Why they're popular, simple... they are least expensive is all, but then people by these they realize most times cant get 911 since their area is digital.

You still should consider a scanner capable of NXDN/DMR and trunking because lots of railroads and definitely business' are on one of those formats and will move to it. Look under column MODE, if its fm/fmn any scanner can get it.

Lot of trunking here that the 260/160 models cant do though, reported will only be able to do single frequency digital.

If I were you, I would have to get another 996P2 or a 325P2 and buy the DMR upgrade as these will do trunk.

georgesharpe- If you don't need it for mobile use, I would just purchase the Bearcat BC365CRS or the BCT15X for a step-up if you don't require digital. The BCT15X has CTCSS/DCSTrunking (analog) and a better receiver too. I would call Bearcat Warehouse or Amazon.com for ordering if they ship outside USA.
Hope this helps you.

I'm curious, does the 355N beep every 0.3 seconds like the BCT7 does? Holy hell, I really wanted to love that scanner, it was small, lightweight, nice looking green display, but the constant beeping of that thing made me sell it after 2 months. It was far too damned annoying to tolerate.

As Bob said, if you can get a bct15x for slightly more, do it. It's a great receiver
