Is there software out there that is similar to eTrunker or Unidens Online Control etc that doesn't require a discriminator tap? Yet still monitors and saves Trunk data. TGID, freq, analog/digital mode etc ( I know it couldn't record data to the same extent without a discriminator tap )

Uniden's online control does not use a disc tap - it uses the regular cable.

I'm sorry if I wasn't too clear, but I'm looking for a program that's similar to eTrunker and Uniden's Online Control.

I'm also looking for a program that doesn't require a discriminator tap.

I know Uniden's program doesn't require a tap, I'm looking for a program that meets those two requirements.

I use Uniden's program, but I think it's lacking. I'd like to see more data collected but obviously not to the same extent as a program that requires a tap.

I think your requirements need a little refining. While there are a few programs that log the usual stuff such as talkgroup ID, alpha tag, frequency, tone, ect. I suspect you're talking a little more in depth than that.
Everything I know of that currently works on the 396 is on the BCD396 Wiki

If you are looking for detailed trunking specs (radio ID's, affiliations, etc.) you have to tap the disc.

Yep, rdale is right on the money. Then you must use ETrunker with a data slicer, or UniTrunker (which doesn't require a slicer) . We have links to both on the Trunked Data Decoders wiki as well 73s Mike
