BCT15X: BC7 vs BC20

So, we connected a bc7 speaker to the new bct15x scanner. It sounds pretty good, but we'd like it a bit louder. I hooked up a pair of powered computer speakers and it's better, but has 2 ugly white speakers sitting there.
I was wondering, would a bc20 speaker sound louder/better than the bc7... or are powered speakers the best path? Note: this is for in-home, so bc23a powered by dc isn't the best option.

i am using, on sale for $12 radio shack computer speakers for my computer, and they are still not bad.
usually the more you spend, the better they sound.

and adding to the dilemma... some transmissions are soft while others are loud. I wonder if there's a way to 'equalize' them.
