Hi guys.
I picked up a BC780 XLT for dirt cheap ($10) at a Hamfest. It works. I only got it for kicks since I have twin BCT15X and Twin SD200s for my scanning needs, not to mention all the Moto multi band/mode stuff. I planned on using this scanner for a feed since our local area towns are still analog NFM in the clear.
Well…I thought it was just missing the volume / squelch knobs. It turns out, the volume shaft is broken. I need to know if there is a workaround for this. I do get audio and the squelch works. It’s just very loud and I cannot adjust it. Obviously Uniden is not an option. So other than getting another one and swapping parts, is there any other way to get this to work? Any pot from newer scanners would work?

Again, this is just a for fun, keep busy tinkering project, nothing serious.

Let me know..

If using it for a feed. I think you can knock the volume down thru the virtual control with ProScan. I am 100 percent sure on that but will check it out when I get home.

Part# are BRVY0902001 and are available in EU so probably Uniden also got those in stock at a $15 cost.

It's a standard pot for audio and not a digital controller to a CPU, but it probably have it's ground lug broken off not getting a connection. You can add a resistor to the middle pin of the volume to ground to get a more normal audio level. The squelch pot seems to have the exact same value, so measure its max value when in either max or min setting and choose about half that value or a bit less to solder to the volumes middle pin and ground.

Gentlemen, thank you both for your kind suggestions. I just found out the same trim pot combo was used by Uniden on the 785, 796 scanners. I just found one on eBay brand new for the 785 so I should be ok.

Again, thank you both.
