BC780XLT kick my Butt...

OK - I am not new to scanning - but I am new to trying to get this thing to trunktrack -- and I feel ... well a little stupid. And reading the owners manual only makes it worse.

Can anyone help me out?

I know I have the freqs correct, I have checked them multiple times - but I just can't get it to follow the transmisisons.....

Help...Please...

Are the frequencies programmed as trunked frequencies??

Go to each frequency manually, push and hold the trunk button until it beeps and a "M" shows up on the display. Do that to each frequ in the system, then hit scan, and trunk, and off you go!!

It also depends on what type of system you are tracking(ie, Motorola type 1 or II, EDACS, etc.). If you can provide that information, someone may be able to pinpoint your problem. Let us know where you are and who you are listening to. We can look it up in the database, if it's available.

Also, are you using any software to control your scanner? There are some good programs out there. I use ARC-780 found here:

There is other software out there and some are freeware. I think that ARC-780 is the best, however.

Not using any special software to control the scanner.

I entered all the freqs manually as listed in the instructions - I also programmed the talk groups ID's and alpha tagged them so I would know who is talking.

I can hear their transmissions - but none of the talk group ID's or their respective alpha tags show up at all...

In order for people to help you, it is a good idea to ANSWER questions people ask of you. 99 times out of 100 this problem is what Whackerboy has already answered for you, but we still don't know if you programmed them in as MOTOROLA TRUNKED freqs vs. conventional.

I have a 785 and have had similar problems initially. Turns out that if you are trying to put all the control channels in for the OHP system, it has problems with trunking. Edmond PD is using a portion of the Smartzone system that has to be locked out in order for the system to track OHP. When I get back from my trip, I will tell you which frequencies I am using for each. If you listen to the control channels listed for OHP, you can hear the data---Edmond's data channel appears to be "faster' try locking that channel out and seeing what happens. It all has to do with the way Uniden does trunking of multiple control channels. [/quote]

... and try doing the same method as Mark mentioned but hit SEARCH . See if the talkgroups show up now.

If you are hearing tx's but not seeing TG's , that is a good indicator of the freq's not being entered in TRUNK mode.

In my 780, I found that the OHP Troop A freqs did not play well with the other towers. I finally seperated the Troop A freqs out from the rest, and programmed them in the same bank as the OKCPD/FD/SO. The rest of the Okla. State Smartzone system I have programmed in a separate bank, CC only. Now everything works fine. Must have something to do with the odd freqs used by the OKC tower. For those that are wondering, here are the freqs: 866.5375, 866.9250, 867.4000, 867.7500, and 868.1750. Not your usual channel progression. :lol:
