Anyone out there using a 796, and successfully monitoring the Union Twp EDACS system?

I'm having one heck of a time trying to get it to work properly. Trunked setting is currently EDACS Wide.

On a hunch, I moved the first freq into channel 2 of the bank that I have the system in. This finally allowed the scanner to decode a few sporadic talkgroups. Mostly data talkgroups, and I have only received a couple of voice communications.

In conventional mode, I receive quite a bit of voice traffic, so I'm pretty sure that something is still wrong with my settings.

Freq's programmed in this order.

0501.6375
0501.9625
0502.1125
0502.7125
0502.9125

So, who can give me a clue?

Are you programming the scanner with the software and if so do you have the Trunk Bank turned on? Regardless of which type of trunking bank you have your scanner set to, it is not turned on by default!

Make sure each frequency is set to trunk too. Also the frequencies should be entered in LCN starting witht he 1st channel in the bank you want it in not channel 2.

Ok, I don't know exactly what is different this time, than previously but I did manage to get it working. I'm getting regular voice coms and multiple talkgroups.

Thanks for the replies. :D

i tried opening that file but i got an error message saying "file is not arc250 compatible". i don't have the pro version, just basic. could that be it?

but anyway, does the trunk system have to be the first channels in the bank? i know that they need to be in the right order, but do they need to be FIRST? ...before the conventional channels? and also, do i have to have ALL the talkgroups entered, or can i pick and choose and only enter the ones i want to listen to?

my current program has some conventional channels from 1-23 and the trunk system is from channel 24-28. is that allowed or should i move it? i also have it on edacs wide which uses FM, not WFM right? i entered talkgroups in AFS and used a delay of 2 in both the trunk system settings box and the bank's spreadsheet page. i wasn't too sure about putting a delay on both places either, but i did... also, what are the two checkboxes for that say "activity ID" and "emergency ALT"? not sure what to do there.

Hmmm that's odd. No one else has mentioned that they couldn't open the file. Could be that you are on basic. I haven't upgraded to the newest version specifically so everyone would be able to use it. Older versions won't open the newer version files

Ok, on to your questions.
1: Yes, you must start at the first frequency in the bank for an EDACS system. (1, 101, 201, etc).

2: EDACS Wide is the correct setting for this system.

3: The entered talkgroups should make no difference. If you only want to listen to a couple, just enter them and forget about the rest.

To hear every talkgroup put your scanner into trunk search.
To only hear entered talkgroups put your scanner into trunk scan

This can be accomplished by holding down the trunk button for a few seconds. It will say ready to ID search or scan depending on which mode it is going into.

The delay is entirely up to you. I personally prefer no delay on the trunked systems.

My understanding of Activity ID is that it will let you know if there is another talkgroup transmitting on the system when you are already monitoring a one that is active.

Sorry, no clue about the emergency alt. Maybe someone else can chime in and give a both a clue. :D

Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

ok i did it! thanks, it works like a champ now. seems like all my settings were correct, i just put the trunk system in the first channels of the bank. i didn't know that mattered too. are the rest of the trunk systems like that too or just EDACS needs to be first in line?

k then, first bank is programmed. ...all of the local PD's (in union county), most of the union twp trunk system, and SPEN 1 thru 4. now just 9 more trunk systems and a couple hundred more channels to go! :?

and i thought a 1000-channel scanner was overkill. LOL

I'm not sure if the rest of the trunked systems require starting at the first channel in the bank. I've pretty much just made a habit of doing it that way.

Be glad you're not in Burlington. The County System alone is 10 trunked systems!

If you still can't use my .mem file (are you sure you didn't download the ARC246 .mem file the first time?), download the excel file.

Then just copy and paste the information into ARC250. The Union County and Middlesex County files are 100% complete including the talkgroups for each system.
