Other than saving a few bucks, is there any reason to purchase a BC898T over a BCT15?

I'll be mostly listening to milair, if that makes any difference.

unless you want to stick with the old programming (banks and groups that are hard set) there is no reason to (and less reason when they re-band-plan) bct15.

Probably the biggest difference is the BC898T has larger controls, and a manual tuning knob, the BCT15 does not. The BCT15 has alpha-numerical display, the BC898T does not.

i would say the "biggest" difference is that the BCT-15 uses dynamic memory ... the controls and user interface being a cosmetic change or feature.

I want to correct myself that they all will re-band plan flash.

BCT15 All The Way!

I have Both!
Hands down, the BCT 15. The 898 is ok but the BCT15 will give you great reception on that part of the band and comes with a service search already programmed for Military Air. Add in the Alpha tags and Dynamic Memory and you have one hell of a scanner. I have 1 and will be acquiring 2 more soon. It really is a great scanner. Uniden really got it right with this one and the 996.

BCT 15 For Sure

Just got one this weekend and is a great radio. Use the Butel softweare to program it though. It will make you life easier.

I second that!

Love my BCT15 but programming without software is DEFINITELY out of the question!
Way too much to do.

Not bad for a frequency, talkgroup, or two, but I would rather use software to program the radio.

Alright, since I'm in the $200 range, BCT15 or BC780XLT? Is the answer that obvious again?

Again, the BCT15 is the right choice.

Alright. Alright. I'm giving into peer pressure.

And yes, if you were all jumping off the roof, I probably would, too.

Though...which roof?

I also use my BC780 to listen to mil air and asked myself the same question - upgrade to a BCT15? I have a BR330 which is almost the same radio, so I know how the BCT15 would work.

In the end, I kept the BC780. For mil air listening, sometimes it's helpful to jump to a specific frequency when you hear activity. For example, upon hearing 'something', I may want to jump directly to 260.9/NORAD. I know the # of this freq because I see it so much. This is easy to do on the BC780, and impossible to do on the BCT15/BR330.

By the way, almost none of these posts compared the BCT-15 to the BCT-8/BC780 with regard to its MIL AIR capability.

My BR330 does OK on mil air (receives AR operation, etc), but I have this feeling that my BC780 is better with overall sensitivity and noise rejection/imaging on the 138-144 AM band. And I can tell you the BR330 has significant imaging in the NFM portion of that band for CAP repeaters and operations.

Its not impossible on the BCT15 at all, you just enter the freq then press hold...nothing to it :D

I monitor a lot of MilAir with my BCT15...works very well for that. I had a BC780 for a short time and IMO the BCT15 is a superior unit across the board.

Can you elaborate on the mil air performance?

Not sure what you want to hear...its the best milair scanner I have. It outperforms my Pro97 and 96 for my use. Never really done any testing its just the scanner I snag more milair transmissions with.
