I've finally worked out the kinks with SDRTrunk and an SDR dongle, and I've been listening to traffic today on SNACC.
My goodness, do the dispatchers stay busy! So much chatter from all kinds of departments - especially RTC.

I've muted virtually all the RTC, except dispatch, supervisors and security. I think that's the mostly surprisingly busy department I've heard. There's not really one report I remember (before I muted them) that stands out. Drivers talking about detours, supervisors asking about routes, when they can go on break, etc. Why are there so many talkgroups dedicated for RTC? It's a total of 40!

A talkgroup I didn't expect to hear much from was the LV Water District security group. I couldn't really track what was going on - something about someone drove by an employee fast. I don't know what the security group protects - is it more than their office building?

What are some talkgroups ya'll like to tune in to?

From your post, it seems that you like to listen to things that most everyone else doesn’t want to listen to. There really isn’t much unencrypted law-enforcement on that system anymore. Just a few small departments like Marshals and university police, and I suspect both of those will probably be encrypted by this time next year given the amount of negative media tension that the Marshals have gotten this year. The Clark County school District police still have a lot that is un encrypted.

Oh, I can't say I enjoyed listening to the RTC radio traffic - that's why i muted almost all of it.

Seeing how so much law enforcement traffic is encrypted (though I don't think the DPS is), i probably won't invest in a handheld or desktop digital trunking scanner. Those things are expensive.

BTW, UNLV police is unencrypted. I'm not sure what kind of traffic is discussed on the talkgroups, though.

Fun fact: SNACC was created by the Las Vegas Valley water district.

Water supplies are a matter of national security and are prime targets in any terror plot looking to cripple a major cities infrastructure. Needless to say they take security very seriously.

Oh, that is an interesting fact about SNACC and the water district.

What property around the city does the LVVWD own?

Their Springs Preserve is on SNACC, and a VHF repeater.

I'm assuming LV Water District would patrol Springs Preserve 24/7, but there's a lot of radio traffic from the people in the field to their dispatch.

Not sure what you're needing from us here -- do we need to tell you that Water District has 24/7 security patrols of their infrastructure in the Las Vegas Valley area, and uses SNACC to report & coordinate their operations?

Yes. And now you have satisfied my needs and requirements. Well done, Hooligan.
