What are the vertical bars for on the display when you press the volume/squelch/select button for? I know that when you press the button down, it displays the battery voltage. I'm curious that there is no mention of this in the instruction book (or at least I cannot find it).

Hello,

The vertical bars you see are Trunked System Activity Indicators. It will display TG activity on voice channels and the Control Channel.
